Promising 3yo On 'Song' For Kembla (Wednesday)

Promising galloper Century Song is far from the finished product but trainer Luke Price expects his talent will take him a long way towards a breakthrough win at Kembla Grange on Wednesday.

Century Song will lead a two-strong attack for Price and his father Rob in the 000 Plumbing Midway Maiden Plate (1300m).

The son of 2019 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Microphone is yet to win in two attempts but has shown positive signs in both of his starts with a pair of placings over two different preparations.

Century Song ($3.50 into $2 favourite on TAB) can get his first win on the board from a perfect draw in barrier four.

“He has drawn a lovely barrier,” Price said. “We had Tommy (Berry) booked but Keagan (Latham) trialled him the other day and was able to get on him.

“He is a promising horse that is still doing things wrong. If he does most things right, he is going to be in the finish.”

Century Song was a runner-up behind Rock Revolution in his only previous start on home turf last October before finishing third over 1010m at Moruya on January 6.

The lightly-raced three-year-old was slow to get into stride first-up and was left with a mountain of work to do but Price believes it was a valuable learning experience.

“We went down there with only the one trial and he just didn’t execute the start,” Price said.

“He got a huge rap from the jockey (Berry) after it and would have learned a hell of a lot. He got back and was hitting the line.

“The tick over trial was perfect, he drew inside and jumped clean and travelled and had plenty still in the tank.”

Century Song is joined by Isla D’amore ($23 into $17) and Price insists the D’Argento filly isn’t without a hope with Ash Morgan aboard.

D’amore has missed the placings at all three starts this preparation, however, Price admits there was an element of trainer error behind her last start fifth at Nowra.

“I probably went to 1400 metres too soon with her there at Nowra on a wet track,” he said. “Her run before that was super over 1200m when she probably ran some of the fastest sectionals of the race in a slowly run race.

“I thought it was a good form race and if she can bring that form to the races, she will run well. She has really impressed me this prep and is a cheeky chance.”

The Prices could be in for a big day on home turf with Monte Braveheart ($11) in the Henry Clive 4yo & up Maiden Plate (1600m).

All Machiavellian ($3.30 equal fav) is the horse to beat in the Kembla Classic Day March 14th Benchmark 68 (1300m) where he is joined by Headstock ($17).

Madam Rupee ($34), the half-sister to the stable’s former star Count De Rupee, rounds out the stable’s hand in the Kembla Grange Autumn Carnival Benchmark 64 (1500m).
