Apprentice Mitch Stapleford will go in search of his first win for new boss Joe Pride when he connects with Moonlight Dream at Kembla Grange on Saturday.

Stapleford has made the move down from the Hunter to take the next step in his career with Pride at Warwick Farm on a three-month loan from Scott Singleton.

The young gun is midway through a strong second season in the saddle with 42 winners and has already booted home three winners in the city.

But Pride is hoping Stapleford can make the most of his provincial claim in the coming months as Stapleford looks to build his profile in the state's competitive riding ranks.

"He is a great kid with a good amount of talent as a rider," Pride said.

"He has come to me at the right time looking to get him through his provincial claim.

"I think he will do it no problem at all. He just has to build a bit of momentum.

"He is in a new place now and I am sure he will become popular with a few city stables down here. He will take off for sure."

Stapleford has five rides on the Kembla card but can claim a win for Pride in the Jamie Layt Memorial Class 1 Handicap (1200m).

Moonlight Dream is in her second preparation with Pride after starting her career in Queensland with Tony Gollan.

The daughter of Zoustar got a win at her second start for the stable at Newcastle last preparation but struggled to replicate that form first-up this preparation where she was seventh over 1100m at Warwick Farm.

"I gave her two runs last prep, she failed at home first-up and it probably was the same here the other day," Pride said.

"When I took her away she won quite easily at Newcastle so she will be hard to beat."

While Pride only has the one runner on the Kembla card, Stapleford also pilots Tears For Fears (race three), Western Lane (race five), Coto De Caza (race six) and This Is The Moment (race seven).

Tears For Fears is one of two rides for Kembla conditioner Mitch Beer and will hunt her first victory for the trainer in the Liam Tomlinson Nexus Mining Provincial Class 1 Handicap.

Beer also conditions This Is The Moment in the Daz's Dash Conditional Benchmark 68 Handicap.

Western Lane, trained by Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou, lines up for start three in the Absolute Towing Midway Maiden Handicap while the John Sargent-trained Coto De Caza drops in grade for the Moretti Constructions Benchmark 64 Handicap.
