Neil Evans' Tips For Gosford (Tuesday)

By Neil Evans

Track around Soft 6/7 and rail out 3m from 1100m to WP and True the remainder

Race 1 COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE (1100m):

Two runners stand out in the opener for the maiden boys at set weights. Provincial three-year-old 5. Foolish should have gone close on debut as a heavily-backed favourite. Tardy to begin from the inside gate, he lost his spot badly though the middle part before having trouble getting a clear crack at them in the straight. With a better run in transit here from a wider gate, he can break through.

Dangers: Must forgive Godolphin three-year-old 10. Wheel who pulled up with problems after failing to run on first-up at Hawkesbury, and will give a much bigger sight here. Keep safe Deep Field three-year-old 3. Assiduity who debuts off three forward trials; while Your Song three-year-old 7. Sungblue makes his debut off successive country trial wins, and bred to thrive in soft ground.

How to play it: Foolish to win and trifecta 5,10/3,5,7,10/3,5,7,10. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN PLATE (1100m):

A stack of chances in the girls' edition headed by progressive filly 12. Ultra who was also luckless second-up at Hawkesbury. Comes through two solid maiden fields, and can peak here.

Dangers: Big watch on lightly raced six-year-old mare 3. Pirrama who hasn't started for more than 10 months, but looked very forward winning the second of two trials, and renowned for hitting the line early in the prep. Keep safe 6. Astern's Girl fourth-up.

How to play it: Ultra to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 MAIDEN HCP (1200m):

Progressive three-year-old 8. The Maxinator did his best work late first-up at Hawkesbury, and will relish this longer journey. Has the superior wet track breeding being by Dream Ahead out of a Sebring mare.

Dangers: Talented filly 10. Misty Dreams returns for a second prep drawn the inside barrier, and with two trials under her belt. Big watch on three-year-old 7. Just Strolling who resumes as a gelding for only his third start, with winkers replacing blinkers. Has been given plenty of time, and held together in a recent trial. Keep tracking the betting on another one first-up off a lengthy break in 11. Snide who has been fitted with two quieter trials.

How to play it: The Maxinator to win and quinella 8 and 10. Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 4 MAIDEN HCP (1900m):

Out in distance for a thinner race, and that stacks up nicely for improving four-year-old 1. Deniliquin who is bursting for this trip third-up. Was good late in a race at Hawkesbury that didn't really suit, and back on soft going is also a plus. Will drift back from the wide gate, and like his Cox Plate-winning father, produce a sustained finish from the 600m.

Dangers: Improving 3. Willinga Stirling gets a nice run with cover at his third start.

How to play it: Deniliquin to win. Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 5 BENCHMARK 64 HCP (1900m):

Promising four-year-old 1. Freedom Square seemingly has this at his mercy fourth-up. Swept home for an easy CL1 win two runs back before strong through the line in a Highway, and missed out on a run in the much deeper Country Classic at Rosehill on Saturday.

Dangers: Big gap to the rest headed by improving five-year-old 3. Foxtrot Bravo third-up; and home track mare 5. Patrina who can run into a place.

How to play it: Freedom Square to win and quinella 1 and 3. Odds and Evens: Odds a special

Race 6 CLASS 1 HCP (1600m):

Not much between the first few here in a good competitive mile battle. Consistent metro mare 2. Belle Espoir has been under two lengths from the winner all four runs this prep, and ultimately destined for bigger targets. Will go forward from a middle gate, and is returning to the track where she had her only previous win in soft ground from nine starts.

Dangers: Improving three-year-old 3. Dark Energy can stalk the top selection all the way from the inside draw after finishing strongly to claim her maiden fourth-up. Ex-Victorian four-year-old 1. Made By Khan resumes for his first run for the new local stable, and has won both lead-up trials; while improving mare 6. Classic Train third-up; and honest 5. Vivenzo with key gear changes; are the next best raters.

How to play it: Belle Espoir to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 FILLIES & MARES BENCHMARK 64 HCP (1200m):

Lightly raced three-year-old 9. Silk Tie is showing plenty of promise, winning first-up and then finishing strongly in a similar provincial line-up 17 days ago. Hits peak fitness third-up, and is by the very good soft track sire Cable Bay.

Dangers: Sooboog three-year-old 5. Bitcoin Baby has real talent, and can give this a shake first-up since winter off two nice trials. Improving 8. Belle O'Ballee had little or no luck in the run home second-up in a similar affair at Hawkesbury, and can go close third-up with a key jockey change. Included in exotics last start CL1 winner 6. Victorella who draws well; and resuming four-year-old and BM 70 metro winner 1. Always On Show who has trialled twice, and boasts a smart fresh record.

How to play it: Silk Tie each way and box exacta 5,8,9. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 8 COLTS, GELDING & ENTIRES BENCHMARK 64 HCP (1200m):

Same recipe for the boys to close the meeting. Progressive three-year-old 9. Dehorned Unicorn defied a betting drift to easily win his maiden first-up at Hawkesbury, and is drawn to go right on with it here. Bred to thrive in soft ground.

Dangers: Watch the betting on four-year-old 2. Electric who resumes for his third start off a quiet trial; while 6. Velorum is on the next line second-up.

How to play it: Dehorned Unicorn to win. Odds and Evens: Split

BEST BETS:
R2 12. ULTRA
R6 2. BELLE ESPOIR

BEST VALUE:
R7 9. SILK TIE
