Magic Millions Number Six Looms For Gai At Wyong

By Gary Harley

Champion trainer Gai Waterhouse will attempt to win her sixth Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic (1100m) when along with training partner Adrian Bott, the stable saddles up the talented filly Summer Loving ($3.40 on TAB) in Wednesday’s $200,000 Classic.

Waterhouse in her own right won the Wyong Classic with Pulsator (2005), She’s Meaner (2008) and Brightexpectations (2009).

And in partnership with Bott, the winners have been Unite and Conquer (2018) and Farnan (2019).

When markets were framed Summer Loving was challenging the Michael Freeman-trained Mach Ten ($3.20) for favouritism.

Tim Clark rides Summer Loving while his brother-in-law Josh Parr has the mount on Mach Ten.

Summer Loving came from near last when beaten a length into third place in her only start in the $1 million Golden Gift at Rosehill on November 5.

The filly trialled nicely with Clark aboard at Canterbury recently and the popular hoop is confident but guarded concerning Summer Loves prospects.

“She is a very talented filly and her Golden Gift run was outstanding. I rode her in a recent tick over trial and she felt good.

"However, Summer Loving did not jump well in the Golden Gift and she won’t want to miss the start from the one barrier here or we are in trouble around the tight track. It is a good field but this filly is pretty good,” Clark said.

Mach Ten is a big threat after his runner-up performance in the Breeders' Plate and an easy recent trial win. The Newcastle Max Lees Classic winner Fire Lane ($7.50) from the Brad Widdup stable is quick and talented.

The co-feature event is the Magic Millions Wyong 3 & 4 Year Old Stakes (1200m) with prizemoney of $100,000. John O’Shea trains the favourite Hell I Am ($2.50) with James McDonald back from a successful weekend in Hong Kong booked to ride the favourite. Hell I Am had four starts during the winter for three Metropolitan wins.

O’Shea’s other runner Shalailed ($4.60) could be the stumbling block as the colt has outstanding Group 3 form. He was runner-up in the Blue Sapphire at Caulfield on October 12 and he was placed in The Red Anchor at Moonee Valley on October 22.

Sneaky Paige ($3.80) for Mark Newnham and the Waterhouse-Bott runner Resonator ($5.50) have chances in a cracking race.

RACE 1, MAINSTREAM FINANCE SERVICES PTY LTD BENCHMARK 64 HCP, 2100m: Jack Duggan ($1.90 fav) drops sharply in class here and he is expected to lead. Youthfull ($5) was an impressive last start winner and Chappelli ($4.80) will be running on.

McDonald has the mount from a favourable barrier. Portnoy ($6.50) will be fitter second-up and he may lead while Oakfield Redgum ($6.50) is racing well.

RACE 3, GOLD COAST YEARLING SALE 10-16 JAN MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1350m: Mr Wallace ($2.60 fav) will appreciate the 1350m after a fast finishing second over 1200m at Gosford last start. He has been racing well without winning this prep but he has drawn okay and should get away with this one. Nullify ($4.20) is due for a change of luck and Wild Irish Rover ($3.20) won’t be far away.

RACE 4, MAGIC MILLIONS WYONG 3YO & 4YO STAKES, 1200m: Shalailed ($4.60) is a talented colt with placings in Victorian Group 3s in October. Sneaky Paige ($3.80) has good recent form.
SELECTIONS: 8 SHALAILED, 7 HELL I AM, 4 SNEAKY PAIGE

RACE 5, EBH BUILDING GROUP MIDWAY BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP, 1100m: Geewiz Johnny ($12) had no luck when a close second at Gosford last start. He was held up until the 100m point then he charged; he has no speed but has a strong finish. I’ll Tell You Now ($5.50) overcame a wide run to win at Gosford last start and he can win again. Oakfield Mahogany ($9) was placed in a stronger race first-up.
SELECTIONS: 7 GEEWIZ JOHNNY, 1 I’LL TELL YOU NOW, 6 OAKFIELD MAHOGANY

RACE 6, MAGIC MILLIONS WYONG 2YO CLASSIC, 1100m: Summer Loving ($3.40) is a smart filly which was responsible for an eye-catching performance when placed in the $1m Golden Gift. Infatuation ($4.80) was runner-up in The Golden Gift and has a soft draw.

Irish Kisses ($5) is in good form.
SELECTIONS: 10 OTTILIE, 9 MR ROCK IT, 3 IRISH KISSES
