After four seconds on end, Ron Leemon hopes he’s found the right race for Euromaster to notch a maiden win at Wyong on Thursday and start to live up to his potential.

Leemon is banking on the four-year-old relishing the back up, seven days since his second at Kembla Grange last week, in the Domeland Supports Equimillions Plate (1350m).

As he looked at the set weights conditions of the Wyong event, Leemon said it was a good opportunity to break through - though he's thought that before - and worth asking Euromaster the question.

“I’ve been saying that for the last four runs,’’ Leemon said.

“He has a bit of potential this horse but sometimes the maiden is the hardest race to win.

“We met a couple of better horses on the day, last start I was a bit concerned about the weight difference with the horse that beat us.”

While Leemon isn’t making any excuses for Euromaster’s last start defeat he says aside from the weight conditions an inside barrier this time around adds to the appeal of the race.

At Kembla, Zac Lloyd was forced to ease the gelding into a position with cover worse than midfield and while he worked home well he couldn’t match the dash of Cohesion who won by almost four lengths.

“I just thought when we looked at the race it was worthwhile taking a punt on it,’’ he said.

“He’s a very good doer and I don’t have to do anything with him. I’ve just had to keep him happy so I’ll find out whether he can back up.

“All I’ve done is trot and canter with him, and a bit of half pace on Tuesday.

“I’m hoping that we get into a nice rhythm and on weights we are a far better chance than we were last week.

“If he can have a clear run at them over the last 400m I think he should be very hard to beat again.”

Euromaster may be winless after five starts, and that’s frustrating for any trainer, but his four seconds have realised almost $35,000 for his owners.

“He’s been a very consistent horse and I’d like to see him get out of maiden class,’’ he said.

“I had a horse that ran five seconds in a row once before she won her maiden. It’s part of the game, you’ve got to accept it.”
