Trainer Anthony Cummings is confident a return to a happy hunting ground can assist lightly-raced gelding Pharoah Magic bounce back to top form at Kembla Grange on Saturday.

Pharoah Magic broke his maiden in fine style at Kembla first up this preparation but failed to replicate that effort on soft conditions at Gosford last time.

Cummings is keen to come back to Kembla for the Peroni CG&E Class 1 Handicap (1200m) where he is hoping for dry ground and will look to make the most of Madeline Owen's 3kg claim.

"Pharoah Magic was impressive there first up and didn't have much luck after that," Cummings said.

"It rained on that second start and the track didn't suit him.

"He just wasn't comfortable so he goes back to hopefully a more suitable track now."

Pharoah Magic ($5) finds a competitive race with chances from several of Sydney's top stables including Peter and Paul Snowden's unbeaten colt Speed Of Light ($2.90 fav).

Jarrod Austin's Let's Go Bro ($3.70) and the James Cummings-trained last start winner Escutcheon ($4.20) provide further depth to the small field.

Owen will also pilot Yarraville for Cummings' stable when the daughter of Impending chases a breakthrough win in the Canadian Club Midway Maiden Plate (1000m).

Cummings tested Yarraville in a Listed Reginald Allen Quality two starts ago but the three-year-old failed to measure up and has since only beaten a runner home in a 1400m event at Goulburn.

She will drop back two furlongs in trip on Saturday and is a $34 outsider to salute.

"She works better than her form so hopefully that's the right race for her," Cummings said.

Cummings will also give First Night her long awaited debut in the Carlton Draught Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap (1300m).

First Night is an unraced four-year-old by star sire So You Think and has trialled seven times over four preparations before finally heading to the races this weekend.

"First Night looks to be a nice enough mare," Cummings said.

"We've taken a bit of time with her so hopefully that works out.

"She's had a number of trials but they've been pretty well spaced and we've brought her along and just waited for her to be ready."

Keagan Latham has been tasked with riding First Night at her maiden start where she is a $21 chance.

The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Figment is the $2.90 favourite.
