John Schell's Tips For Newcastle (Thursday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a good track

Race 1 - 1:15PM GOOD LUCK SAM CLENTON @ EQUIMILLION MAIDEN HANDICAP (900M)

3. Hayek is a Bjorn Baker trained galloper resuming from a spell in this. He showed plenty of speed in his first two starts back in April when finishing fourth in each of them. He’s had two trials leading into this return and has won each of them at Rosehill. The 900m suits and he should take plenty of running down. 2. Uncle Barry comes into this after a last start second at Kembla Grange and another placing would not surprise. 7. Nami’s Jewel has finished second in two of five starts and has the talent to get into the placings again fresh. 9. Tampa Bay has been in the placings of late and can sneak into the minor money again.

How to play it: Hayek WIN.

Race 2 - 1:50PM GOOD LUCK SANDIE WANT @ EQUIMILLION SUPER MAIDEN (1200M)

2. My Proclama has only had three starts and has been placed in each of them on the Acton track at Canberra, this track, and Hawkesbury. She has raced on the speed in each of them and should take up a prominent position and take beating. 1. Maid Of Moolah is resuming from a spell and has finished second in three of her four starts. She bears close watching in this. 3. Augusta National is a colt on debut and has had a number of solid trials in preparation. He looks primed to run well. 8. Hellfighter is also on debut after numerous trials and should run well from the good gate.

How to play it: My Proclama EACH WAY.

Race 3 - 2:25PM NEW ERA TECHNOLOGY MAIDEN HANDICAP (1500 METRES)

2. Columbus is a well-bred Dundeel gelding which had no luck in the straight when debuting with a third at this track. The step up to the 1500m here should be in his favour and he can atone for that defeat. 1. Lady Pankhurst battled on solidly enough when a last start fourth here behind Magenta Skies and is worth thought again. 4. Ironheart ran fifth in the same race Columbus contested when last produced and has place claims, while 6. Hell Island failed to fire last time out but ran well enough when midfield at Kembla Grange before that.

How to play it: Columbus WIN.

Race 4 - 3:05PM DAVALI THOROUGHBREDS CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1500 METRES)

6. Emilia Jane has had two starts back from a spell and finished midfield in each of them at Gosford and this track. She looks ready to peak now and is set to give plenty of cheek up to this distance. 1. Squeezebox has run third in both of his runs since resuming for the new stable and is set to figure prominently again. 2. Doradus failed to fire when resuming at this track but has shown ability in his career and is capable of sharp improvement. 4. Erina was a winner here on debut and comes into this after a last start third at Kembla Grange.

How to play it: Emilia Jane EACH WAY.

Race 5 - 3:40PM THE ADVISER COLLECTIVE MIDWAY BM64 HANDICAP (900 METRES)

4. Welcome Gypsy has been racing well of late and is also a winner over this distance at this track. 6. I Am A Winner won here two starts ago and is a chance with a repeat of that, while 1. No Statement has been around a while now but continues to race well. 2. Stratafy is a last start winner at this track that warrants respect.

How to play it: Welcome Gypsy WIN.

Race 6 - 4:20PM A-PLUS CONTRACTING & POLY WELDING PROV. BM64 (1850 METRES)

8. Mah Ali ran home well to finish fourth at Wyong two starts ago and followed that up with a second at Canberra when last produced. She only needs to run up to those efforts to be hard to hold out here. 5. Oceanfront wasn’t beaten far when a last start third at Wyong and has claims up to this distance. 9. Uncle Harry has worked home well into fourth in his latest two starts and is worth thought, while 14. Sweet Bubbles ran home well to score a last start Muswellbrook win.

How to play it: Mah Ali WIN.

Race 7 - 4:55PM DAILEY FAMILY FUNERALS BM64 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

11. Wangi Wangi raced on the speed when scoring a debut win at Gosford then backed that up with a fourth at Kembla Grange when leading and weakening in the straight. She should push forward from the wide gate in this and is worth another chance. 10. Dusty Bay had no luck when it needed it when a last start fourth at Kembla Grange and can atone here. 9. I Am Brave was a strong Scone winner on debut and was spelled after a fifth in Midway grade at Rosehill. 7. Aligned was placed here last time out and can get into the money again.

How to play it: Wangi Wangi EACH WAY.

Race 8 - 5:30PM NZB READY TO RUN 12 & 13 NOV COND. BM68 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

7. Scorched Lane led at Kembla Grange when last produced and finished fourth behind Sonofdec and Thundering Soul. He’s drawn well here and is worth another chance with a run to suit. 2. Sonofdec hit the line well to win that Kembla Grange event and should be prominent again if he can repeat the dose. 5. Thundering Soul also ran home well in that race and can do a similar job here. 8. Dark Vador resumes and was a good Wagga winner before the break.

How to play it: Scorched Lane EACH WAY.

Best Bets:
Race 3 (2) Columbus.
Race 6 (8) Mah Ali.

Best Value:
Race 8 (7) Scorched Lane.
