Jason Collett's Half A Dozen Strong Chances At Hawkesbury (Tuesday)

By John Schell

Form jockey Jason Collett is banking on quality shining through at Hawkesbury on Tuesday with six mounts awaiting the hoop that dominated at Randwick last weekend.

Collett had a great day on Saturday when claiming the Group 2 double of the $2 million The Invitation on Stefi Magnetica and the $1m Callander-Presnell aboard Ohope, as well as scoring on Oakfield Jupiter in the Midway Handicap.

“It certainly was a great day at Randwick, and now I’m out to continue the momentum starting with Hawkesbury on Tuesday,” Collett said.

Collett combines with Warwick Farm trainer Joseph Pride, who himself won last Saturday’s $2m Group 1-Spring Champions Stakes with Attica, when Casserousse ($2.50 on TAB) contests the Wellbring Maiden Handicap (1100m).

Like Attica, Casserousse is raced by Godolphin, for which Pride has enjoyed great success since being one of the trainers appointed by the conglomerate when it moved to a public training model.

Casserousse is resuming from a spell, and Collett has been impressed with what he’s seen of her trials.

“I haven’t been on her in the trials, but she’s looked good with a second and a win in each of them at Warwick Farm,” said the jockey.

“It looks a nice race that Joe’s picked out for her to resume in and she looks a good chance to open her winning account.”

Collett will partner the Michael Freedman-trained pair of Empress Of Japan ($3.80 favourite) in the Richmond Club F&M Benchmark 64 Handicap (1400m) and Swing State ($7) in the Evergreen Turf Maiden Plate (1800m).

He will also steer Koning ($3.90) in the Elite Sand And Soil Midway Benchmark 64 Handicap (1800m) for Richard & Will Freedman.

Collett rounds out the day on Scorched Lane ($5) in the Clarendon Tavern C,G&E Benchmark 64 Handicap (1400m) for Anthony & Sam Freedman.

“I rode Scorched Land at Newcastle at his latest start, and he was on speed and weakened a little before being tight for room to the line,” said Collett.

“I’ve been on him in a trial since then and he had a nice hitout when winning that Randwick. He’s only lightly raced and is a talented horse that should figure in the finish.”

Collett's other ride is Margin Call ($2.50) in the Mental Health Matters Class 1 Handicap (1100m).
