Widdup's Hawkesbury Quartet On Home Soil (Tuesday)

By John Schell

Local trainer Brad Widdup will attempt to add to his recent winning list when he sends around up to four runners at Tuesday’s Hawkesbury meeting.

Widdup, who enjoyed city success at Warwick Farm last Wednesday with Ausbred Rising Sun and with Be Real at Newcastle on Thursday, will start his day at Hawkesbury when Mosca Luna ($19 on TAB) contests the Pink Finns Charity 4YO&Up Maiden Plate (1500m), with Jay Ford taking the ride.

“She’s only been placed in two of her 15 starts but she’s shown her share of ability,” said Widdup.

“She ran a good placing at Goulburn at her latest start and if she can run up to that effort here then she should figure in the finish again.”

Widdup combines with Zac Wadick when She’s All It ($6) runs in the Blakes Marine 3YO Maiden Handicap (1100m).

“She’s All It was placed in her first two starts last preparation at Bathurst and then at Hawkesbury,” said Widdup.

“She had a break after that and resumed with a good second at Goulburn and she’s on the way up. This looks a nice race for her at Hawkesbury and I’d expect her to run well again.”

Party Doll ($4 favourite) will be Widdup’s runner in the Workers Club Group Provincial Class 1 Handicap (1100m) with Chad Schofield the jockey.

“She’s a mare with handy record with a win and four placings to her name from just the eight starts,” Widdup said.

“She was placed in her first couple of runs this campaign, and wasn’t beaten far at Gosford last time out.”

Meanwhile, Warwick Farm trainer John Steinmetz will be represented by two gallopers at Hawkesbury with last start winner Good Once ($12) lining up in the Pioneer Services Class 1 Handicap (1500m) with Andrew Calder aboard, and Ever Was ($19) in the Lander Toyota Class 1 & Maiden Plate (1800m) with Wadick in the saddle.

Good Once scored an overdue win in super maiden grade at Newcastle when last produced, while Ever Was ran his usual honest race when finishing second at the track on the same day.

Widdup has Joint Mission ($16) lining up against Ever Was, with Rory Hutchings booked for the ride.
