Gosford Winners - Tips For Wednesday 31st December

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s meeting at Gosford. Selections based on a good track.

Race 1 - 1:45PM JOJO'S PARTY HIRE PROVINCIAL CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

5. Brightburn has some strong form around her from the debut second, though beaten favourite there, and she took it to Wyong where she scored an easy all the way maiden win. Has to back it up now but looks promising and is sure to be right in the finish.

Dangers: 6. Seven Days brings quite an impressive first-up win into this race and they way she finished it off at Hawkesbury suggests another 100m will be right up her alley. Where she gets to in the run will be interesting but have to be wary. 3. Just Awesome won nicely on debut at this track and distance in June before jumping in a deeper pool at Rosehill. Fitter for two trials and drawn to have every chance. 7. Too Darn Finesse somehow managed to get up and score a surprise win on debut at Scone when sent out $21. Attacked the line hard there and if they overdo it she could be one to capitalise.

How to play it: Brightburn WIN ($2.30 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 2 - 2:20PM TEDDY BEAR ENTERTAINMENT MIDWAY 3YO MDN PLATE (1000 METRES)

5. Charlina took on some handy enough youngsters in her first preparation and looks to land in a race with far less depth first-up. She impressed in her trial win before that prep and she did so again, racing away for a dominant victory at Hawkesbury two weeks ago. If that horse turns up she’ll be hard to beat.

Dangers: 1. Aeternum won two trials before stepping out at Newcastle in November and leading before being run down. Given a bit of time, drawn the one and no surprise to see some improvement. 8. Kiss Goodnight raced on the speed and gave a kick then was reeled in when resuming over this course. A repeat effort has her in the mix in a similar race. 7. It’s A Power is an interesting runner who debuts after a sound placing in her recent trial at this track. Gets in with a light weight and any support would be telling.

How to play it: Charlina WIN ($3.10 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 3 - 2:55PM CENTRAL COAST AQUA PARK MAIDEN PLATE (1600 METRES)

11. Like Anything appears a good each-way chance coming back to the mile after giving a big sight in front at Canterbury earlier this month. She was right in the market there too and only gave out in the last 100m or so. Can run a cheeky race.

Dangers: 2. Vasala is logically going to be a stumbling block though he was comfortably held on debut over 1400m at Kembla after leading. Better for it, should roll forward and give a good account. 9. Reverberates comes through the same race where she was looking strong at the finish though beaten five lengths in third. Placed twice at the mile and third-up now she’s a definite chance. 1. Marebello was placed at Mudgee early in December and has since switched to the Chris Waller yard. Scratchings help his cause and he could be placed.

How to play it: Like Anything EACH-WAY ($7.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 - 3:30PM 9D CINEMA CG&E BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

3. Stormfield might well get a good degree of control in front in the small field and that’s a good head start in what looks a race of few winning chances. Held them off at this trip at Goulburn as favourite second-up from a long break. Close to peak and take catching.

Dangers: 1. Loving was outclassed when resuming at Rosehill behind Plaintiff a few weeks back and will find this a much easier target. Was always well back in that race and didn’t make any impact. Query on whether she’s a wet tracker and we’ll find out this time. 5. Vis I Do was huge odds when a game second at Canterbury in a much improved showing on recent efforts. You have to trust he can hold that form so he’s looking a place chance. 2. King Larry can be forgiven for his failure in a Highway second-up., his return effort at Scone was sound and is not without claims.

How to play it: Stormfield WIN ($2.60 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 5 - 4:05PM THE GLASS SLIPPER SUPER MAIDEN HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

8. Mind Ya Bizz ran a very nice race at this track on debut then likely found the 1000m too short when resuming as favourite at Hawkesbury. Still ran on well at the finish and has a nice set up with barrier one and an extra 200m behind what should be a handy enough speed. Good chance.

Dangers: 11. Impuriteze has had two quiet but at the same time eye-catching enough trials to be wary of her first-up in her second preparation. Was just behind the placings in both starts back in the late winter and she’s one to keep a close eye on. 5. Acharnee was a minor drifter in betting at her first outing over this track and distance a couple of weeks back. Was no match for the winner who swept on past but she was sound to the line. Open to improvement and a definite chance. 9. Weekend Market didn’t settle the best in the early part of her race at Newcastle but still managed to run on into third. Has a handy drop in weight after the claim and no surprise to see her run well.

How to play it: Mind Ya Bizz WIN ($3.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 6 - 4:40PM NCIS SYDNEY CONDITIONAL BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP (2100 METRES)

No reason why 1. Forbidden Riff can’t be in the finish again after looking strong at the finish of his past two starts for wins at 1800m and 2000m. Creeps up in the weights but set to get a nice run from the inside gate and that gives him every chance for a hat-trick.

Dangers: 6. Darn Cute took plenty of running down when just denied over the 1900m at Canterbury on December 12. Expect she’ll look to roll forward again, she has won here at a mile and this is certainly no harder. 2. Format has been a bit disappointing this time in and a bit more was expected of him when fifth at Warwick Farm two weeks back. That was a Benchmark 64 too. Has drawn a bit better and if he finds a length or two he’s right in this. 3. Dr Evil looked the winner when he stuck his head in front of Forbidden Riff at Newcastle only to be outgunned late. Extra 100m might be a concern and he could be placed.

How to play it: Forbidden Riff EACH-WAY ($5.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 7 - 5:15PM POP UP PUTT PUTT F&M BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

5. Diva Las Vegas couldn’t have been missed when she resumed with a slashing fourth at Kembla a few weeks back over the 1000m. Was only getting warm late but charged at the line and will relish the step up in distance. Draws well, can hold a more forward spot and should be very competitive.

Dangers: 9. Crimson Wings ran up to her short price when riding the speed and dashing away to score a maiden win at Newcastle first-up. Can only be fitter for it while naturally up in grade no surprise if she goes on with it. 11. Siebert is another first-up maiden winner and she was quite impressive lengthening out to chase down the leader at Newcastle over 1150m. Wide draw but you know what you get from the stable and she also could measure up. 2. Shanoni on face value probably finds this a bit short first-up but she did continue to improve last time in and the claim is a plus. If support holds up it’d be worth noting and at worst she should be hitting the line nicely.

How to play it: Diva Las Vegas WIN ($6.50 TAB Fixed Odds).
