Front-Running Blonde Hard To Stop (Newcastle Tues)

By Gary Harley

Newcastle Jockey Club will host their fourth race meeting in the space of 18 days on Tuesday.

John Sargent’s three-year-old filly Autumn Blonde ($3 favourite on TAB) is well placed in the NZB Ready To Run 12 & 13 Nov Class 1 Handicap (1250m).

A daughter of The Autumn Sun, she was beaten less than a length in the Group 2-Sweet Embrace in March.

She is a front-runner and led all the way to win a Kembla Maiden on August 30 before a last start failure after leading near the home turn in the Group 2-Tea Rose on September 20.

This race is a drop-in class for Autumn Blonde and she is well placed with Mitch Stapleford riding.

Kris Lees has booked his 2kg-claiming apprentice William Stanley to ride the stable's speedster Power Of The Brave ($2.40) which resumes from a spell in the 900m TAB App Benchmark 68 Handicap.

The 5yo has not raced since June, however, the gelding has had two recent soft trials and is drawn perfectly.

Two of his four wins have been on firm tracks and he is a winner on his home course.

Gregory McFarlane’s Gosford-trained Orthie's Boys ($4.80 equal fav) is in good form and he has the services of Regan Bayliss in the 1500m The Prince Of Merewether Hotel Benchmark 64 Handicap.

The horse's last five starts resulted in wins at Kembla and Goulburn and in the other three, wasn’t far away at Randwick, Hawkesbury and Gosford.

He has a nice barrier and can race on the speed.

Two first starters, Ciaron Maher's El Toro Macho ($3.70) in the 1250m Tooheys Maiden Handicap and Mariko ($2.30 fav) for Mark Minervini in the 900m Reward Hospitality Group Maiden Handicap should both run well.
