Late Scratching At Newcastle Today (Kettering)

After being alerted to an error in the allocation of a benchmark given to Kettering (Race 3, No.5 at Newcastle on Tuesday, 31st July), after that gelding raced at Tamworth on 9 July 2018, Racing NSW Stewards today interviewed trainer Kris Lees, who also represented the owners' interests.

It was established that a clerical error issued a benchmark of 52 instead of 62, when the gelding was re-rated after the Tamworth race on 9 July 2018. Accordingly, taking into account the scale of today’s race, Kettering was issued with 4.5kg less than it should have been allocated.

In accordance with the provisions of AR111A, Racing NSW Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Kettering at 11:24am when they found the clerical error had not been discovered within a reasonable period of time, particularly having regard that betting on the event had already commenced.
