Small But Select Group Of Youngsters To Do Battle At Warwick Farm (Today)

By Neil Evans

A group of exciting debutant two-year-olds are set to steal the wet weather show at Wednesday's Warwick Farm meeting.

And with most having trialled well on rain-affected ground, the Traffic Warden @ Darley Maiden (1100m) sprint could quickly emerge as a strong juvenile form reference heading towards winter.

While the worst of the relentless rain seemingly headed north, intermittent falls through Tuesday and Wednesday will see the track remain in Heavy range, with the rail true.

Certainly, stables have planned for such trying conditions with most races dominated in early markets by runners very adept in heavy going.

Leading the line-up of first starters is Change My Address ($2.60 favourite on TAB), a filly by powerhouse sprinter Exceedance in the John Sargent yard, also debuts behind two smart trials, winning the latest in heavy ground by nearly four lengths.

Also likely to attract market support on debut is Marinera ($3.70), a filly by prolific wet track sire Exceed And Excel trained by Bjorn Baker, who has won both lead-up trials.

Later in the program, ultra tough Canberra seven-year-old Fangela will try to claim a fourth win from his last five starts in his first visit to a metropolitan course since New Year's Day 2024.

Having long been a widely travelled punters' favourite often carrying big weights, Fanegla has won 10 times from 39 starts.

Priced around $5.50 in TAB markets, he tackles the Hawaii Five Oh @ Vinery Stud Handicap (1100m) where emerging Rosehill-based three-year-old Apex heads the betting at around $1.65.
