Supido's Unbeaten Record On The Line In Randwick Highway

By Tony Megahey

For exciting Riverina flyer Supido Beauty ($7.50 on TAB), the extended travel for a Royal Randwick trial a month ago, a prior nomination, and Kerrin McEvoy equates for a compelling push into Saturday’s Arrowfield Stud Highway.

The planning is explicit by young training newcomer, breaker and work rider Darrell Burnet since dominant wins by the filly at Gundagai and Wagga Wagga in August.

And the added insurance of a priming open trial win at home two weeks ago, following the 12-hour return trip to headquarters.

And while Darrell is pondering a precarious barrier 18, the unbeaten filly will come in several slots the way emergencies are drawn and probable scratchings.

“We were coming after the Randwick trial but with bad weather and flooding down here she missed work, we waited until her fitness was where we wanted,” Darrell explained as she jumps grades but appealingly on the limit 54kg with McEvoy in the set weights Arrowfield Stud $120,000, Class 3, 1000m.

Darrell is a highly respected young educator and form student and Supido Beauty is rapidly recouping her $40,000 purchases at the Magic Millions yearling sales.

A syndicate of family and friends from the Riverina and Mornington race the Supido protégé from a So You Think mare, Tennessee La Belle.

“She’s exciting for us and has come on perfectly after the Randwick trial when we held her back and trialled again at home. A filly and she ran better time than higher graders,” Darrell enthused.

“Hannah (Williams) said the trial gave her just a lovely feel. Hannah has a big opinion of her, rode her to win a maiden and her first trial.”

Jumping a grade the planning is precise with McEvoy’s experience and big race record and able to accommodate the light weight.

“No favours the barrier but she’s got the turn of foot to get across and position. The way she’s trialled and the weight advantage, probably the right time to come.”

The speedster has an international flavour, the syndicate with Irish and Scottish heritage. Darrell’s parents reside in Mornington.

Darrell’s partner Brittany Heywood, of course is from a renowned Riverina racing family. Her father Chris a premiership trainer and brother Nick a highly accomplished rider.

“Mum is Irish, dad’s parents are Scottish; I was born there, my middle name is Stewart, we race the filly in their tartan.

"Hopefully they can make the trip, long way from Mornington, but they travelled to see her win previously. I originally I moved from Mornington for university up here.

“I’m pre-training with numbers, got my licence for the new season, we’re building a nice team and we’ve won four races.

“I’ve got 25 stabled, mostly breakers in Hong Kong interests. But when you get a filly showing so much promise with family and friends it’s special.”

Supido Beauty is prominent at $7.50 in the early TAB betting market behind in-form Cameron Crockett’s recent Randwick Highway winner Salire ($5.50 favourite).
