Strong Nominations For 67th Longines Golden Slipper

A total of 2,220 horses from across Australia and internationally have been nominated for the world’s richest race for two-year-olds, the Group 1 $5 million Longines Golden Slipper, to be run at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 18 March 2023.

Among the 1151 colts and geldings and 1069 fillies is a half-brother to the 2022 Longines Golden Slipper winner Fireburn, for Laurel Oak Bloodstock.

Leading stables with the highest number of nominations are headed by Ciaron Maher Racing with 150 nominations, up 18 from last year.

Other leading trainers and stables with the largest number of nominations include Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott with 117 (up 26), Annabel Neasham 114 (up 35), Godolphin 104 (down 1) and Chris Waller Racing 103 (up 21).

Also included in nominations are 20 horses from New Zealand stables and an entry from Japan.

Sires with the highest nominations for the 2023 Longines Golden Slipper include last year’s leading nominated sire I Am Invincible (96), followed by Zoustar (92), Deep Field (85), Capitalist (79), Snitzel (77), Russian Revolution (73) and Dundeel and Trapeze Artist (both 67).

The 67th running of the Longines Golden Slipper will be the second year of the race offering up to $6m prizemoney, including a $1m bonus to connections if a horse wins two key lead-up races and the Longines Golden Slipper.

Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing and Wagering, James Ross said: “The elevation of prizemoney to $5 million along with an added potential $1 million bonus from the Australian Turf Club has further raised the status of Sydney’s iconic classic, whilst making it Sydney’s richest autumn race.

“This race shapes our breeding and racing in Australia like no other and this continues to be reflected in the strength of the yearling and weanling sales.

“We again thank the many thousands of owners for their support as they continue the exciting journey towards the race they most dream of winning when first buying a horse."
