Silver Slipper Day Paves A Golden Path To Future

The cream of Sydney’s two-year-olds and the next hottest prospect in Australian racing – welcome to just some of the live action at Australian Turf Club’s Rosehill Gardens this Saturday.

The Group 2 $250,000 Chandon S Silver Slipper Stakes at Rosehill Gardens has attracted a crack field of two-year-olds as the final countdown begins to the ultimate race of dreams, Sydney’s iconic $3.5 million Longines Golden Slipper.

The ruling Longines Golden Slipper favourite Tassort trained by James Cummings for the powerful Godolphin team is at $1.70 on TAB fixed odds this Saturday against some of Australia’s most successful trainers of two-year-olds.

Cummings and Tassort take on four stables who have already celebrated Longines Golden Slipper glory: McLaren for Peter and Paul Snowden ($5); Faretti for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott ($6.50); Born A Warrior for Hawkes Racing ($10) and Time To Reign for Gary Portelli ($11).

Saturday’s race will have a major influence on the TAB market for the 2019 Longines Golden Slipper at Rosehill Gardens on 23 March to be run on Australia’s biggest day of Group 1 racing.

The Longines Golden Slipper trophy will be on display and available for photos for all ATC Members and patrons on course behind the JR Fleming Grandstand from 11.30am to 3.30pm.

Official Longines Golden Slipper pins will also be on sale. All purchases include the chance for a lucky patron to win a $2000 Longines timepiece.

Also on Saturday, there will be an exhibition gallop just after race one with Fiesta, from Chris Waller stable, galloping with Hugh Bowman aboard.

Rosehill Gardens this Saturday also sees the return of multiple-Group 1-winning three-year-old The Autumn Sun – being hailed as the heir apparent to Winx as Australia’s best racehorse – in the Group 2 $400,000 Hobartville Stakes.

The Chris Waller-trained three-year-old is a red hot $1.50 favourite, ahead of in-form galloper, the Anthony Cummings-trained Vegadaze ($6).

In another feature race this Saturday, one of Sydney’s most popular mares Daysee Doom defends her crown in the Group 2 $200,000 Millie Fox Stakes.

Ron Quinton’s mare is at $11 on TAB fixed odds behind favourite I Am Serious ($3.50), Champagne Cuddles ($6), Cool Passion ($6.50), Moss Trip ($7) and Savatiano ($8).

The Rosehill Gardens track was rated a Soft 5 at 9am Thursday, following 1mm of rain over the previous 24 hours and 7mm of rain over the past seven days. There has also been 12mm of extra irrigation over the past seven days.

Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager of Racing and Membership Services, James Heddo, said: “This Saturday’s Chandon S Silver Slipper is the first of four final weeks of feature two-year-old racing in Sydney before the iconic Longines Golden Slipper.

“This crucial step to the Longines Golden Slipper is backed by a very strong card of Group racing as we head toward a host of further feature racedays this autumn.’’

Rosehill Gardens and all ATC racecourses provide free parking and free high capacity WiFi. For all ticketing, racing and general information including discounts for Sydney Autumn Racing racedays at Rosehill Gardens and Royal Randwick visit theraces.com.au
