Rosehill Gardens Hosts Australia's Largest Charity Raceday

Rosehill Gardens hosts Australia’s biggest charity raceday this Saturday – ASX Refinitiv Charity Raceday – to help support and raise funds for 24 separate organisations including the National Jockeys Trust.

A function of more than 1500 people in the Grand Pavilion will be the epicentre of the raceday’s fundraising effort, with a target of $200,000 as part of a $1 million donation to a range of children’s disability and medical research charities as well as the National Jockeys Trust.

ASX Refinitiv Charity Raceday is supported by many financial organisations across corporate Australia and is organised by the ASX Refinitiv Charity Foundation.

Race sponsors on the day include Maldives Travel Connection, Next Telecom/Next Business Energy, Pacific Boating, Precise Air, PRO IT, Refinitiv and Robb Report.

The Listed $150,000 Maldives Travel Connection Winter Challenge is the feature event on a nine-race card which marks the final Saturday meeting of the 2018/19 racing season.

Eckstein, for Sydney’s champion trainer Chris Waller and jockey Hugh Bowman, is the $4.80 TAB fixed odds favourite for the Maldives Travel Connection Winter Challenge in a wide-open betting race ahead of the Clare Cunningham-trained and Christian Reith-ridden Cradle Mountain ($5.50).

Chris Waller sits on 170 metropolitan wins for the 2018/19 season heading into Saturday, his second-ever highest total number of metropolitan winners, as he formally prepares to claim his ninth successive Sydney Trainers' Premiership at the end of this month. Rosehill Gardens was rated a Soft 5 on Thursday.

Australian Turf Club Head of Community Engagement, Steve McMahon, said Saturday was among the Club’s most important charity events.

“Australian Turf Club is committed to expressing the character of thoroughbred racing as giving, compassionate and empathetic to the causes that concern our communities.

“We are delighted to partner with not-for-profits especially on our racedays to provide opportunities for fundraising.

“ASX Refinitiv Charity Raceday is the largest of its type anywhere in Australia and showcases the wonderful spaces of the Grand Pavilion at our world-class racecourse at Rosehill Gardens.”

Among a silent charity auction of 89 lots on Saturday are a Bench Africa Safari with Business Class flights on SAA, a Pacific Boating 44 foot class membership, Delta Air Lines to USA, Singapore Airlines to anywhere in Asia, British Airways Club World tickets to Europe, a luxury super-yacht cruise on Ghost 2 for 60 guests on Sydney Harbour, a catered box for 16 at the Elton John concert at Qudos Bank Arena and shares in a racehorse.
