New Racing Season Jumps At Rosehill With Jockeys All Aboard

Australian Turf Club opens the 2024/25 Sydney Metropolitan racing season with the annual Jockeys Appreciation Day at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday.

Former and current jockeys will join together throughout Saturday at a raceday function and a special ceremony in the Mounting Yard in conjunction with the ATC, NSW Jockeys Association and Australian Racing Christian Chaplaincy.

The jockeys will form separate guards of honour in the mounting yard and be part of a prayer and recognition service after Race 7.

ATC will also formally recognise and make a special presentation to the past season’s Sydney Metropolitan Champion Trainer, Jockey and Apprentice after Race 1.

Rosehill Gardens-based Chris Waller secured his 14th consecutive Sydney premiership, jockey James McDonald claimed a sixth Sydney jockeys title (including four in a row) and Zac Lloyd was Champion Apprentice, which included also finishing fifth overall on the table.

Along with several races named around the NSW Jockeys Association and the raceday on the 10-race card, races on Saturday have also been named to recognise premiership winners Waller, McDonald and Lloyd.

Australian Turf Club Head of Racing and Wagering, Nevesh Ramdhani said Sydney racing’s trainer and jockey ranks were widely acknowledged as world-class.

“The depth of the training and riding ranks in Sydney is world-class so Chris Waller, James McDonald and Zac Lloyd are in an elite group," Mr Ramdhani said.

“It is fitting we salute these premiership winners on the same day as many other champions especially in the jockey ranks join for the start of a new season.

“ATC is delighted to join with the NSW Jockeys Association and the ARCC in this annual day which brings so many former rivals but at the same time good friends to share many memories and stories."

Royal Randwick’s 10-race card will start at 11:30am and conclude with the final race at 4:50pm. Full fields for Rosehill Gardens are available HERE and TAB odds for the entire card are available HERE.

Saturday also sees continuation of the ATC’s Winter Long Lunch offer at the popular Grandview restaurant overlooking the Rosehill Gardens Racecourse and home straight. Full details of the offer are available HERE.
