Moët & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes Day Races In Fine Style

The record-breaking Sydney Everest Carnival continues at Royal Randwick this Saturday on Moët & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes Day – an event of Group 1 and feature racing combined with spring’s most stylish raceday.

The $2 million Group 1-Moët & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes and $2m Gr 2-The Invitation headline another stellar 10-race card as the hugely successful $81 million Sydney Everest Carnival reaches new heights.

Just a week after a record TAB Everest crowd of 50,167, five black type races including the $1m Gr 2-Catanach’s Jewellers Callander-Presnell and $750,000 Gr 3-Cincotta Chemist Craven Plate add further highlights.

Australian Turf Club Head of Racing and Wagering, Nevesh Ramdhani said the first five weeks of the Sydney Everest Carnival had been the best in recent history.

“We have seen some unforgettable moments already with world-class racing and thrilling finishes capped by Ka Ying Rising in last week’s TAB Everest," Mr Ramdhani said.

“Again this Saturday, we see some outstanding fields and quality right across the program as we head through the second half of the biggest and most successful Sydney Everest Carnival yet.

“Royal Randwick is spring’s hottest ticket for outstanding racing, fashion and fun and vibrant entertainment right across the racecourse."

Shangri La Boy trained by Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott and with Nash Rawiller aboard, is the $3.20 TAB favourite in the feature Group 1.

The in-form Joe Pride stable has Attica as a well-backed second favourite at $3.90 (in from $4.60) ahead of one of four fillies in the race in Within The Law (Bjorn Baker/Jason Collett) at $5.50 (firming from $8). Three fillies have won the Moët & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes since 2016.

The Invitation sees 12 of Australia’s best mares clash in the fifth running of the innovative race. Highly-talented mare Miss Roumbini trained by Mick Price & Michael Kent Jr and to be ridden by Adam Hyeronimus is a strongly-backed $6 into $4.20 TAB favourite in early trading.

Manaal looking for a third straight win for the Michael Freedman and Tommy Berry pairing is $4.40 ahead of Ganster Granny at $5 for Hawkes Racing and jockey Tim Clark.

The Catanach’s Jewellers Callander-Presnell is named in honour of legendary journalists and media figures in Ken Callander and Max Presnell.

Rivellino trained by Kris Lees and ridden by Nash Rawiller is the $3 favourite after previous runs in Group 1 company. The Waterhouse/Bott/Clark combination join with Farnicle at $3.80.
