KIA Tancred Stakes & Vinery Stud Stakes Continue Sydney's Golden Autumn

Two Group 1 events including Australia’s only 2400m Group 1 weight-for-age race headline Australian Turf Club’s third day of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday.

The Group 1 $1.5 million KIA Tancred Stakes – a race won by some of Australian racing’s greatest champions – and the Group 1 $500,000 Vinery Stud Stakes for the three-year-old fillies are the features of a 10-race card which includes six other Group races.

Saturday’s meeting continues Australian Turf Club’s Longines Golden Slipper Carnival before the $37 million Sydney Autumn Carnival moves to Royal Randwick for The Star Championships.

Multiple Group 1-winning mare Duais-trained by Edward Cummings and ridden by Josh Parr was well supported as early TAB favourite ($3.40-$2.90) when final field markets for the Group 1 KIA Tancred Stakes opened on Wednesday morning.

Think It Over – a winner of 11 races and almost $5 million prizemoney – is $3.90-$4 TAB for trainer Kerry Parker with joint TAB Fixed Odds pick Spanish Mission ($4.40-$4) trained by Peter Moody and ridden by James McDonald.

In the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes, unbeaten boom Queensland filly Gypsy Goddess, for trainer David Vandyke and jockey William Pike, is the opening $3.90-$4.20 equal TAB favourite to record her sixth win in six starts.

Three Chris Waller trained fillies – Hinged well backed early ($5.50-$4.20) for Longines Golden Slipper-winning jockey Brenton Avdulla, Fangirl ($5.50) Hugh Bowman and Pretty Amazing ($6.50-$7 TAB) James McDonald – are next in TAB betting.

Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing and Wagering, James Ross said: “The Group 1 KIA Tancred Stakes has attracted another highly competitive field of 11 runners who have amassed more than $20 million in prizemoney.

“The Vinery Stud Stakes is a rare chance for middle distance and staying fillies to gain Group 1 and black type over the 2000m and is also a strong pathway to The Star Australian Oaks at Royal Randwick in two weeks time."

Four of the last five winners of the Tulloch Stakes have also won the Derby.
