Jockey Quotes - The TAB Epsom

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 1 $1.5 million TAB Epsom (1600m) at Royal Randwick.

Kathy O’Hara (Rediener): “Had a lovely run, it just panned out lovely for him and he produced the goods. He’s just a really nice horse and it’s only up from here I think for him. It’s not the ceiling for him so who knows.

“It was awesome. It was pretty much a carbon copy of last time (win in the G3 Bill Ritchie). He was good enough to do his thing and put his head down when it counted.

“When (Damien) Oliver (on Nugget - 10th) come around at the half mile I was pretty happy that they put a bit more tempo on because I thought they could leave me a bit flat-footed here. I was delighted to see a bit of tempo in the race and he was good late.”

Joao Moreira (Kovalica): “He was a bit unlucky to not win the race.”

Blake Shinn (Golden Mile): “Ran great. Obviously had the wide draw and went across. Had a good run and kicked strong. Just got overhauled.”

Chad Schofield (My Oberon): “He went enormous. Obviously we drew really wide and covered ground. We had a nice trip in the race following the two favourites but just the slow speed and wide run wasn’t helpful. He rattled off a big finish.”

David Pires (The Inevitable): “Just got shuffled back when the pace slowed half way through the race. Horses went around me and I got too far back. Ran on really well.”

James McDonald (Going Global): “We worked into a nice enough spot but failed late.”

Tim Clark (Converge): “Found a nice spot early. It was a muddling run race. Got held up just after straightening. Could have finished a bit closer.”

Tom Sherry (Kirwan's Lane): “Just not quite his day.’

Craig Williams (Hope In Your Heart): “I was so pleased with her performance. We didn’t have any luck in the race. The cover disappeared half way around. She had to be tough and tenacious but a shame we didn’t have any luck from the draw.”

Jason Collett (Diamil): “His run was good considering the interference in the straight.”

Damien Oliver (Nugget): “They wanted him ridden with cover from the wide gate but they went too slow. It was impossible to get cover from that gate. They were going pretty steady from mid race and he got keen. He ran well. I’m sure he will improve by the run.”

Jamie Kah (Pounding): “We had no luck and jumped too well. Had no cover.”

Dylan Gibbons (Communist): “He gave me a great feel and a great run. When push came to shove I just lost it.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Madame Pommery): “Had a nice trail but just didn’t go home today.”

Tyler Schiller (Democracy Manifest): “Probably a bit unlucky the last 150m but really promising horse going forward.”

Dean Yendall (Barbie's Fox): “She ran a cracker. I said to JD and the owners from that nice barrier with no weight on her back we tried to use that to an advantage. She ran an awesome race.”

Andrew Adkins (Williamsburg): “He just never settled when there was no speed in the race. Thought he was honest enough.”

Rachel King (Political Debate): “The horse is actually going super. Just needs to draw a gate.”
