Jockey Quotes - The 7 Stakes

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the $1,00,000 7 Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick.

Nash Rawiller (Think It Over): “I’m very proud. That was a gallant performance. I just relied on the horse’s ability and his will to win. I was reluctant to come out from behind him (Zaaki) because I thought he was still running time. It’s no good coming out and attacking him now cause we’re still going 100 mile an hour, I just waited until I sensed that he was waiting for us or beginning to feel the pinch.

“As soon as I showed my bloke that bit of daylight, he wasn’t laying down he just attacked the line. For a horse that’s come from where he has, to pull out a finish like that is just unbelievable.

“Even in the next with Eduardo retiring, I’m pretty emotional about that. To know what this horse has been through, to come here today on a fast track and doing that, they’re just unbelievable those good ones.

“They just don’t know how to take a backward step.

“I tried to treat is as just another race and just rely on the horse. He travelled beautifully, you can see the way he travelled up behind them, I thought ‘there’s no reason to come out yet, I’m still going through my gears’. The horse in front of me can’t go any quicker, it’s impossible. So I just stayed there, and when I sensed he was just starting to either wait for me or feel the pinch, that's when I pounced.”

Think It Over wins the 7 Stakes

Chad Schofield (Zaaki): “Very brave. Obviously tough to get beat but the horse was super.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Fangirl): “Huge run. We had to offset the barrier a little bit. We got out of the race compared to where the winner and second horse was but she let go with a really good finish. Unfortunately the draw beat us today.”

Rachel King (Arapaho): “He was very fresh early but finished off really well.”

Regan Bayliss (My Oberon): “This horse has gone enormous again. If we can get a bit of give in the ground in the next couple of weeks he is going to go close.”

Andrew Adkins (Zeyrek): “Huge effort behind some classy horses. I thought he held his ground well. He has nicer things in store for his future ahead. Hopefully he keeps doing the right things.”

Tom Sherry (Diamil): “Caught a bit wide. Run told a bit late.”

Adam Hyeronimus (Hoo Ya Mal): “Probably didn’t break as well as I would have liked to have him in a more forward position today. In saying that he has run tremendous."

Dylan Gibbons (Going Global): “Good run. If anything she whacked away one-paced but the further she goes the better she will be.”

Brett Prebble (Hinged): “I think we have to find out the vets report. That will be more telling the story.”

Jason Collett (Fireburn): “I had to give away quite a start but she was really good late.”
