Jockey Quotes - Sweet Embrace Stakes

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 2 $250,000 Catanach’s Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick.

Hugh Bowman (Lazzago): “It’s just great to be back at Randwick, my home track. To ride a winner for Chris Waller who’s been my biggest supporter for the best part of the last two decades. And of course the Ingham family as well, Debbie (Kepitis) and the team with the Winx connection there so it’s just lovely to win for the connections.

“Very proud of her. The race really wasn’t run to suit, there was a lot of pace on paper but it didn’t eventuate like that. When I needed her to dig deep she did exactly that and I can see her going better next time.

“I think (there’s improvement). You can see her coat hasn’t quite come through yet. I’m not going to judge her too much, I hadn’t seen her or had anything to do with her. But she gave me a lovely ride, she’s very sensible and when she gets in a race where there is tempo she’s going to be much better.”

Tim Clark (Facile): “Really brave performance covering ground. She is a really nice filly.”

James McDonald (Blanc De Blanc): “She was super. She is going really really well.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Saltaire): “Nice honest run by her. She is an improver next prep.”

Brenton Avdulla (Summer Loving): “She was disappointing. She jumped and travelled strongly. They rolled at a good speed. I was disappointed with how quickly she gave in. See how she pulls up.”

Ryan Maloney (Skirt The Law): No comment provided

Chad Schofield (Empress Of Wonder): “She was a brave run. We drew wide and went back. We had cover but we lost it around the 600m. She was game.”

Tyler Schiller (Divine Glory): “She is as tough as they come. She just needs a little bit further.”

Regan Bayliss (Portorosa): “She is probably lacking a little strength against these top class fillies but they will have a little bit of fun with her in time.

Koby Jennings (One Kind): “It’s got races to win somewhere else.”

Tom Sherry (August Bloom): “Beautiful run. She is a really nice filly. We will see the best of her over 1400m.”
