Jockey Quotes - Spring Stakes

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 3 $200,000 New Zealand Bloodstock NJC Spring Stakes (1600m) at Newcastle.

Sam Clipperton (Pierossa): “It was a tough win. I’ve had a lot of time for this filly for a fair while. She’s really progressed as the more racing she’s had.

“She only won a maiden at Gosford with not a lot of depth, but her work on Tuesday morning was first class. She’s a filly that you have to squeeze every little bit out of, but she really knuckles down under hard riding.

“I think this filly is going to be an even more mature filly in the autumn and particularly once she gets up to those 2000m and beyond distances.

“She used to put on quite a show before the start and she got me at Canterbury her first ever start and she got beaten a nose that day. So now it’s just about working with her and eliminating those habits. I must say with racing she’s gotten a lot better. And that’s all it is just working with her. She’s not there yet, but she’s turning into a true professional.”

Tim Clark (Kazalark): "It was a really solid performance from him only having his third start, so he’s got a bright future. He ran terrific."

James McDonald (Robusto): "He settled back and he made a really good run late."

Jason Collett (Talento): "He had every chance."

Tommy Berry (Saveadateforme): "He’s much better than that, we have no doubt. He’s done well this preparation and he might have just come to the end of it."

Rachel King (Miss Faberge): "Massive run. She was much better up to a mile, it was a big step up in company."

Regan Bayliss (Starliner): "She’s a talented filly, just missed the start but made good ground late."

Nash Rawiller (Basquiat): "He needs the big operation."

Chad Schofield (Token Capitalist): "It was a tactical race, we were up there dping it all on our own. He fought hard and was game."

Jay Ford (Kandos Cosmos): "He ran super. From the wide gate we had to ride him quiet and he closed off really well."

Tom Sherry (So You Battle): "She’s a prep away but she gave me a good feel."

Hugh Bowman (Redeiner): "I’m really proud of him, he tried his guts out. There was just a bit much pressure for him today."
