Jockey Quotes - Schweppervescence

Another big two-year-old win for Team Hawkes with lightly raced colt Irikandji appreciating a step up in distance.

Find out what the jockeys made of their horses’ runs in the Group 3 Schweppervescence (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Corey Brown (Irukandji): “Beautiful horse. He didn’t have a lot of luck in running. He drew a bit sticky and rolled forward. He was three and four deep so I ended up pushing on to lead midrace but he stuck on well given he made two race moves in one race. He boxed on well. He was going as well at the line as he was at the top of the straight so really happy.

“He’s a bit of a character. I’ve only been on him the once but he was a bit of a character coming around here doing silly little things wrong but I wouldn’t be saying geld him as yet.”

Luke Currie (Aristocratic Miss): “Ran really well. Barrier beat her.”

Tim Clark (Spin): “He ran really well.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Legislation): “Just fair.”

Josh Parr (Ragged Rascal): “I was pleased with his run. He didn’t have much luck at all.”

Jordan Childs (Akkadian): “The horse is flying. Just when I got my momentum up halfway down the straight just got blocked for a run.”

Craig Williams (Osorno): “On face value he was really disappointing. Think there must be something underlying so we’ll see how he comes through it.”

Mark Zahra (Ringerdingding): “Yeah ran well.”

Michael Dee (Vega One): “Very good run. Much improved from two weeks ago. Definitely 1400m helped but I still think a mile will be right up his alley.”

Michael Walker (Futooh): “Unlucky. Nowhere to go.”

Brenton Avdulla (Perfect Pitch): “Ran well, probably should’ve finished third or fourth.”

Andrew Adkins (Sweet Ava): “Little bit disappointing. I don’t think the 1400m is her go at the moment. Drop her back in distance and ride her a bit quieter, she’ll be right.”

Damien Oliver (Nasaayim): “She ran okay.”

Christian Reith (Signore Fox): “Covered ground but ran well.”

Jason Collett (Onthetake): “Great run. Just too far back on the slow tempo.”
