Jockey Quotes - San Domenico Stakes

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 3 $250,000 Smithfield RSL San Domenico Stakes Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Chad Schofield (Libertad): “I’ll be honest. Coming here today I thought we might need the run. We drew the widest gate and planned to ride the horse quietly. I did say I would ride the horse on feel.

“He flew the gates and floated into a lovely position. From there I was able to sit and wait because I knew I had the two leaders covered. When I pressed the button he quickened and held them quite comfortably.

“As a two year old he has actually been scratched a few times behind the gates so he has really turned the corner and was really good today. It’s exciting because I know there is a lot of improvement there.”

Tyler Schiller (Moravia): “He is a lovely colt. Very gallant into second. Probably just experience got him beaten but a lot more in store.”

Brett Prebble (Butch Cassidy): “Lovely run. He jumped really fast and I reckon that is the shortest distance he wants so just step him up in trip and that will help him get through his gears a bit easier.”

Nash Rawiller (Corniche): “He was a bit slow away and was pretty luckless from that point. Got a nasty bump there before the straight which didn’t help him.”

Adam Hyeronimous (The Instructor): “He ran well. He was in a proper race today. Maybe just come back in grade and step him up over distance. He’ll lead and win.”

Tim Clark (Introducing): “He got into a nice spot in behind the speed. I feel he is looking for six furlongs now. I thought he should have finished a bit closer.”

Kerrin McEvoy (General Salute): “Good run by him. Just was a little bit new off the bridle so he’s still learning in that regard but a nice effort. He can go a bit further.”

James McDonald (Kandinsky Abstract): “He was good. He just got far too far back and made good ground late.”

Tom Sherry (Fire Star): “Just over-raced and did the race back to front.”

Dylan Gibbons (Untouchable Legend): “Stepped a little bit tardy and didn’t cop the high pressure."
