Jockey Quotes - King Charles lll

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the $5,000,000 King Charles lll Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick.

James McDonald (Fangirl): “She’s flying at home, I haven’t seen her go any better at home. She’s quite funny, she’s hard to read at times because she can put in an odd gallop. Her form is great but (she) doesn’t really gallop that well. These two weeks have been unbelievable. She trialled with all those Everest horses and she probably could’ve almost got a slot after that trial that’s how good she was going. She’s a really good horse, under certain conditions she’s pretty hard to beat.”

“Her track work these last two weeks, her trial was phenomenal. I hadn’t feel her go as well. She can throw in the odd gallop where she’s a bit lacklustre in her work. She just wanted to be here, I’m so happy she’s reaping the rewards.”

“Even when you’re looking around her ears are pricked, she had an evil eye on her. Her eye was just glowing, she was just in form. She was such a happy horse around the stalls. Didn’t begin as well but we were lucky to use a good gate (barrier 2) and she did the rest.”

“That’s the one I wanted to win. I wanted the king’s crown.”

Craig Williams (Mr Brightside): “He gave me a beautiful ride from the barrier, honest again. At the top of the turn I wasn’t going well. Just shows you what type of horse he is. If he pulls up well obviously go to the Cox Plate. The way he went today he will be looking forward to the extra distance.”

Chad Schofield (My Oberon): “Annabel has him flying. He is running so well this prep and will grow a leg if its a soft track.”

Nash Rawiller (Think It Over): “He has come through the race alright. Probably didn’t stretch out under pressure like he can. I reckon it is just these hard tracks. He has had a couple of hard runs now. He did us so proud the other day beating Zaaki. I think it is a good time to give him a break and set him for the Queen Elizabeth. He’s done the right thing by us and Kerry is of the same opinion now.”

Josh Parr (Huetor): “I thought he ran well. He was interrupted from the 600m point and that cost him in the final stages.”

Zac Purton (Light Infantry Man): “He is not easy. Was good through the line.”

Hugh Bowman (Buckaroo): “I was satisfied with him. Fresh off the plane from Ireland he just found the pace too frantic. He balanced up and worked to the line well. Looking forward to his future here.”

Sam Clipperton (Zeyrek): “Just from the wide draw I got stuck wide. Thought he did a good job to stick on to the line.”

Dylan Gibbons (Nugget): “Ran his absolute heart out. Love to ride a hundred horses like him. Must mention dad ran third on him and I’ve run fourth. I will hear about this later.”

Zac Lloyd (Golden Mile): “He got over-racing first two or three furlongs which didn’t help him in the end. Got a bit tired late.”

Tommy Berry (Kovalica): “It was cruel we had to go so far back. He gave me goosebumps late.”

Kathy O'Hara (Rediener): “Brave effort. He was still there until the 100m but weight scale didn’t suit him today.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Atishu): “I thought she ran a good race. Felt well just hard to give them ground today. They were humming along and kept humming in front. Will go to Melbourne and be a chance at the mile.”

Jason Collett (Hope In Your Heart): “She has run huge. Came from a long way back. Weaved a path through them. Hit the long strongly.”
