Jockey Quotes - Gimcrack Stakes

An eight year old race record fell to the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained filly Catch Me who took out the first two-year-old race of the season.

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts in the Group 3 Keeneland Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Royal Randwick.

Kerrin McEvoy (Catch Me): “She has got a very nice amount of ability, I was wide and was getting pushed wider on the corner but she still had the tenacity to kick on and put her nose in front as we approached the furlong and she did it quite soft in the end so a great start to her career.

“She is above average that is for sure and she is only going to get better so it was a really good effort to kick like she did after being caught wide and a little bit aggressive through the first part of the race.”

Tommy Berry (Calescent): “We had a bit of a wide run from that barrier, she probably showed a little bit too much speed for her, she was travelling into nice at the furlong, when she shifted in I think she gave herself a bit of a whack, she didn’t feel great thereafter, but trotted in fine.”

Winona Costin (Deviate): “She ran well, she’ll improve a lot of it.”

Jason Collett (Diddles): “She was really good, she did want to hang most of the way, which you would have seen around the bend, when I asked her there was something in the tank, it was pleasing.”

Tim Clark (Honey Go Lightly): “Rode the speed and found the pressure a bit too much.”

Josh Parr (Last Chance Dance): “Very sound effort, copped a little bit of interference at a crucial stage, but great training performance to get her here today.”

Corey Brown (Mayaaseh): “I thought she ran well, got a little bit lost back behind them, she hit the line really well, she’s a nice horse.”

Andrew Adkins (One Step): “Couldn’t really muster speed early, she got to the line okay late, she’ll be good in time.”

Hugh Bowman (Originaire): “Solid performance today.”

Craig Williams (Press Week): “She’s very well educated, she was a little bit slow out, felt like she is going too fast for too long and she just can’t do it both ends, she’ll be improved with the experience.”

James McDonald (Satin Socks): “She jumped really well, she travelled out on a limb which wasn’t ideal, but she boxed on well.”
