Jockey Quotes - Five Diamonds Prelude

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the $1,000,000 Five Diamonds Prelude (1500m) at Royal Randwick.

Kathy O’Hara (Palmetto): “He’s a lovely horse to deal with. Late in the race I thought he needs to find and he did. He was all out but he wanted to win.

“I was hoping he hung on. I thought they had got to me but thankfully they didn’t. “They put the foot down from the 500m and he’s a horse that only has a short turn of foot. I pulled him out at the top of the rise and he found quickly. I’m not sure he had anything left but wanted to win.

“I’m happy with the opportunities I’ve been getting. It’s all about being in the right place at the right time and that happens to be me right now.”

Jason Collett (Detonator Jack): “Better performance today. Ridden a touch quieter. He was strong late and better over further too.”

Tommy Berry (Waterford): “He has run enormous. Came off the winner’s back like I was going to beat it. It packed too many punches today. Spot on for the 1800m.”

Regan Bayliss (Converge): “They ran along. Was just a bit off the bridle in the race for me and I was gone a long way from home.”

Tyler Schiller (Democracy Manifest): “He was terrific again. Just had to get back from the wide draw. Made up a lot of ground.”

Rachel King (Zoumon): “Good first up. Just got a bit tired late.”

Tom Sherry (Cotehele): “Not sure where he goes to now.”

Chad Schofield (Fawkner Park): “Thrilled with his return. Obviously only going to improve with more distance.”

Brett Prebble (Mississippi Prince): “Honest race. A touch tougher in the class.”

Sam Clipperton (St Lawrence): “Thought he ran a terrific race. Just felt he lacked some confidence going the Sydney way for the first time in competitive conditions. Experience will do him the world of good. Nice horse.”

Dylan Gibbons (Wategos): “Just the 1200m to 1500m did too much work within himself. Stuck on gamely.”

Andrew Adkins (Super Helpful): “Super run in a tough field. Stand him in good stead for a couple of weeks.”

Zac Lloyd (Altivo): “Not his day.”

Jean Van Overmeire (New Republic): “Probably needs a bit further.”
