Jockey Quotes - Country Classic

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the $130.000 Drinkwise Country Classic (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Laura Lafferty (Real Time Warrior): “It was an open field today and I really felt like everyone had a chance to win, he just felt super going to the gates and relaxed really nicely for me. I was just lucky enough to get the splits at the top of the straight and he was too strong for them.

“He probably should have won a few more races to this point but he’s been in races that just haven’t suited him. The tempo was really strong today which suited us, he relaxed beautiful in behind them and when he’s able to travel like that, he can reserve his energy and work strong to the line.

“I’m from Warrnambool, apprenticed to my Dad, Peter Lafferty, thanks to my manager Liam Prior he prompted me to come up to Sydney and join John O’Shea on a three month loan and if it keeps going like this I’ll be very happy.

“It’s been a really hard six months but as Jenny Duggan said the other day you’ve just to keep one foot in front of the other and eventually it happens in the end.”

Tyler Schiller (Five Kingdom): “He ran really well. Got a good run and the split late and ran really well to the line.”

Alysha Collett (Nemingah): “Super run.”

Tommy Berry (Invincible Dash): “Bit keen in the run. Probably told its tale late.”

Robbie Dolan (Dream Runner): “Ran well. Got flattened about three times.”

Tim Clark (Kitzbuhel): “He had a really tough run. Didn’t quite seem the same horse today.”

Ashley Morgan (Aesop's Fable): “Had a good prep. Just come to the end of it.”

Brodie Loy (Notabadidea): “Pulled too hard.”

Jean Van Overmeire (Defy): “I think a bad barrier is probably a good barrier for him.”

Nyssa Burrells (Zakeriz): “He travelled nice. Just couldn’t quite sprint the last bit while everything else picked up. He was still whacking away at the end. Wasn’t too bad.”

Jenny Duggan (This Is So): “He ran well from a bad alley. I think he has had enough this time around.”

Lee Magorrian (Wichita Warrior): “He went a nice race. First time to 2000m he went well.”

Josh Parr (Group Think): “Nice solid performance.”

Andrew Adkins (Mahsinger): “Well and truly over did that. Entitled to run how she did.”

Kathy O'Hara (Birdonawinningpost): “Probably just raced a little bit tired this afternoon.”

Jason Collett (Kermatin): “Every chance.”

Winona Costin (Proven Class): “Wide barrier brought her right undone.”

James Innes (Rockamo): “Drew awkward. Three deep with cover and at the 1000m when they started shifting out he had to make up a lot of ground. I thought he was honest in defeat.”
