Jockey Quotes - Coolmore Classic

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 1 $1,000,000 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens.

James McDonald (Lady Shenandoah): “She’s pretty good. She’s doing the right things anyway. She wasn’t entitled to win, she was all out at the 100m, and she was worked up prior to the start which was a bit of a concern. Just whether that was her home track. But we were able to take a couple of minutes where she took a breath around at the start.

“She began well and fitted in and showed her quality fighting spirit. I think that she is a fast filly and as she gets older and starts filling out into her frame I think that she will come back in trip and be even faster.”

Tyler Schiller (Firestorm): “She was quite phenomenal late. I thought at the top of the straight she was just getting her right leg but just had to balance up. I don’t feel like she was getting through her gears quick enough for the 1500m. I thought late she really picked up out of the ground. I was surprised how close she got. A really nice mare going forward.”

Tim Clark (Lady Of Camelot): “She was very game in defeat. Just the barrier didn’t help her today. Extremely brave.”

Josh Parr (Amelia's Jewel): “A bit of negotiating early with the inside riders to gain the spot. I dare say that has taken away from her finish.”

Jason Collett (Olentia): “A better gate today so made some use of it in a more genuinely run race. She’s gone really well.”

Blake Shinn (Alsephina): “Disappointing. Just didn’t turn up today. Hopefully can bounce back next time.”

Tommy Berry (Marble Arch): “Just forced to do a little bit more work than we would have liked early. Felt the track as it’s firming up though the day.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Coeur Volante): “She jumped OK. Got a spot travelling behind the speed. Got a bit warm in the preliminaries so the warm day might have affected her result.”

Rachel King (Manaal): “The day she draws a gate, one of these races is hers.”

Reece Jones (Sounds Of Heaven): “A little tardy to begin.”

Alysha Collett (Elettrica): “I thought she was brave. A little bit sharp for her.”

Zac Lloyd (Scarlet Oak): “She was a bit disappointing. She is better than that. Whether she is looking for a wetter track. Just not letting down as well as she can.”

Ashley Morgan (Our Gold Hope): “She was really good. Got into a lovely spot following the winner. Just batted away.”
