Jockey Quotes - Concorde Stakes

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 3 $1,000,000 Kia Ora Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Royal Randwick.

Zac Lloyd (Headwall): “These horses, they make you ride different. He gave me the world of confidence the way he’d been trialling. He’s a 1000m specialist but he's just come back so much bigger, so much stronger. He can sustain his gallop for 300m now instead of 200m and that's going to be very vital for him in a couple of weeks’ time.

“When I straightened up and I could see Lady Shenandoah do bottled to the inside and I could see everything in front of me. I thought they're no chance. She [Lady Shenandoah] must have done very well to get near me because I felt like I quickened so well.

“He's a very cruisy horse to ride. He travels so good into the straight and he just fills you with confidence. He's just a very good horse.”

James McDonald (Lady Shenandoah): “You have got to be pretty happy with that apart from not winning. Gallant in defeat.”

Chad Schofield (Ostraka): “He went super. We had the run of the race, travelled super. Quickened well and fought hard to run third.”

Adam Hyeronimus (Dragonstone): “He has gone really well. He is an old horse but he’s happy and free and willing. Just condition gave out the last 100m.”

Ethan Brown (Jimmysstar): “Good effort with weight. He just hit a flat spot over this trip but his last 50m was great. He is well and truly on track.”

Nash Rawiller (Mornington Glory): “He is a lovely horse. I was able to gain some form of control of the race for 300m. Pressure came on quite early in the big long Randwick straight. He has to go home and show the right things to show he still has something for the rest of the prep. The sort of horse who can bounce back.”

Jay Ford (In Flight): “Really good. That is the hardest race she has ever contested. She is in really great form. Ran a mighty race.”

Ashley Morgan (Hard To Say): “He is probably going well in his grade. That was a pretty elite field.”

Tommy Berry (Generosity): “She is just a lovely mare. I have a lot of time for her. You’ll notice I never moved on her today. It will be nice when I’m able to let her off the bit.”

Regan Bayliss (Tiger Shark): “Super run to run fourth in that grade. Slow away with the shades on so we were a lot further back than we wanted to be. Hit the line really well.”

Tim Clark (New York Lustre): “She acquitted herself really well to not be beaten too far.”

Rachel King (Spring Lee): “Very pleased with her up in grade. Didn’t disgrace herself.”
