Jockey Quotes - Chairman's Quality

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 2 $300,000 Schweppes Chairman’s Quality (2600m) at Royal Randwick.

Tim Clark (Alalcance): “If she learns to jump on terms and get going, good luck beating her. She’s just got so much stamina, and we always thought that. I was open to the idea of taking a sit on her today, especially early I wasn’t bustling her, she was working through to be in a forward position but a couple crossed and I was going to be happy there. But they seemed to go a bit slow and over the crossing I said ‘I’ll take it from here Willo’.

“You can’t pull her up after the race, so the 3200m is going to be no problem. She drops down in weight and she’s going to be hard to beat because she’s just in a rich vein of form.”

Jamie Melham (Birdman): “Kept getting shuffled back further and further. Definitely back him up next week. Run was super.”

Zac Lloyd (Valiant King): “He ran really well. Got into a good rhythm. As that pace really slackened we elected to roll with them while going steady. He sustained his gallop well to the line. Good effort.”

Ryan Moore (Desert Hero): No comment

Tommy Berry (Athabascan): “Really nice run. We got into a beautiful three wide line until the 1000m. For some reason we got pushed a bit wide there but he travelled well. Loved his last 250m.”

Tyler Schiller (Lastotchka): “Really happy with her. Got into a nice rhythm rounding the corner for the first time. Did a good job late. Happy going forward.”

Damian Lane (Francesco Guardi): “Unfortunately not finishing his races off. Travelled really well today and thought at the 600m I was a great chance. Last 200m was not finishing like his old self.”

Kerrin McEvoy (True Marvel): No comment

Blake Shinn (Waltham): “Horse raced well. He doesn’t help himself at the start. Got back in a slowly run race. Rounded off well.”

Craig Williams (El Jasor): “Bad draw, went forward with blinkers on first time. He just didn't relax. Followed the winner who is exceptional. He had excuses the whole race.”

Andrea Atzeni (Kinesiology): “We had a bad draw so had to take him back and ride for luck. The pace was too slow. Turned into a bit of a sprint which didn’t quite suit him.”

Jay Ford (Strathtay): “He is coming along really well. Settling well in his races. If he can stay the two miles next week he will give himself every chance.”

Michael Dee (Manzoice): “Happy early and then we got shuffled back. Ended up a long way back and made a long run around the bend.”

Ashley Morgan (Hopeful): “Fantastic run. Lovely spot from a tricky gate. Thought were going to run top three. Just wants a wet track and if he gets it, will be very competitive.”

Reece Jones (Mr Waterville): “Feel like the tempo was against him. Being so far back he is very one-paced. Need a bit more drag into the race.”

Dylan Gibbons (Age Of Sail): “Blinkers worked a wonder there. He’s gone enormous. Felt like he was going to run into second there. Very happy with his run.”

Molly Bourke (Bacio Del Mist): “Just a bit unlucky from the gate. Had to take our medicine but thought she worked to the line really well.”

Andrew Gibbons (Fulfilled): “Pulled too hard first go in blinkers. Gassed himself.”

Alysha Collett (Laspirit Deeler): “She travelled far too eager for that sort of distance to be finishing off.”

Winona Costin (Positivity): “She just wanted to overdo it a bit in the middle stages. Took away his finishing effort.”
