Friday Focus - A Snapshot Of Saturday Racing

ROYAL RANDWICK – BEST BET: Race 3 # 2 – DISNECK

He is ready to win third-up and gets a much more favourable setup with James McDonald riding for the first time. The gelding had too much to do first-up and then arguably should've won last start in a similar grade. He excels over the Randwick 1200m and won three from three at this track/distance last campaign. Additionally, the dry surface suits and although he'll need luck, he has the closing speed to run over the top of his rivals.

ROYAL RANDWICK – BEST BET: Race 4 # 12 – IDLE FLYER

She was impressive winning first-up at Kensington, and her effort had merit visually with the clock backing up her performance. The mare was run to suit, but she moved well and accelerated away from her rivals with style. Further, she recorded some of the meetings' fastest closing splits, and all key indicators suggest that she can only improve. The rise to 1400m is ideal, and she is unbeaten second-up with the switch to a drier surface being no concern.

ROYAL RANDWICK – VALUE BET: Race 7 # 2 – YELLOW BRICK

He can improve sharply here back on top of the ground, and all his peak figures have come over 1400m. The six-year-old wasn't suited first-up on the testing surface, but his sectional profile suggested the rise in trip would benefit, and his run was much better than the form guide reads. Further, the form out of that race has subsequently produced numerous winners/placegetters. He maps to have an economical run behind the speed and second-up last prep he ran second in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m), which lines up well for this event.

NEWCASTLE SATURDAY – PROVINCIAL PICK: Race 8 # 9 – RUINATION

He was a strong winner on debut at Kembla Grange and did it at both ends, running a fast time relative to the day. The colt always faced the breeze at a fast pace and kept responding under pressure in the straight to score easily. He will have only benefited from that experience and will be fitter, stepping up in distance without any issue.
