Friday Focus - A Snapshot Of Saturday Racing

By Nick Berney

ROSEHILL GARDENS – BEST BET: Race 5 # 11 – TAZIMA

He’s an improving import for trainer Chris Waller, and he profiles well for this assignment. The five-year-old was building towards a win, and his last start was full of merit when running over the top of his rivals to score. Further, he was run to suit but made up significant ground, clocking fast closing splits and went through the line full of energy, holding his action well. He can step again, getting out to the 2000m, and a senior rider, Tommy Berry, goes on for the first time from a kind draw.

ROSEHILL GARDENS – NEXT BEST: Race 7 # 3 – ROSELYN’S STAR

He was brave in defeat first-up at this track/distance after a long time off the scene, and gets a much more favourable setup here. The gelding was posted three-wide out on a limb last start, working in a genuine tempo, and he accelerated but tired late over the concluding stages. He receives a significant barrier change, allowing him to have a much more economical run, the drying track suits, and he has consistency to his ratings to win this event.

ROSEHILL GARDENS – VALUE BET: Race 10 # 15 – EMIRATE

He’s always promised ability, and he can bounce back this prep after a recent sharp trial at Canterbury. The four-year-old moved well, responded under pressure and hit the line solidly, clocking fast closing splits relative to the morning. The blinkers go on for raceday, he maps to find the superior part of the track and expecting him to sprint fresh.

KEMBLA GRANGE – PROVINCIAL PICK: Race 4 # 5 – SAMARELLE

She’s a nice type, and her debut win at Newcastle had style with the clock backing it up. The filly absorbed the pressure, sprinted hard, but showed the key attribute of closing speed and all key indicators suggest a rise in trip is ideal. She’s 46 days between runs, but has had a tick-over trial, and Keagan Latham has multiple options from the soft draw with the rain-affected ground suiting.
