Drinkwise Rosebud The Perfect Pathway To Golden Spring Group One

A key early pathway to one of Sydney’s most sought-after Group 1 races is run at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, just weeks from the bumper Sydney Everest Carnival and feature races.

The $200,000 Listed-Drinkwise Rosebud for three-year-olds has horses and stables looking to progress towards the $1 million Group 1-Yulong Golden Rose at Rosehill Gardens on 27 September.

The Drinkwise Rosebud also comes ahead of other three-year-old lead-ups in coming weeks at Rosehill Gardens in the $250,000 Gr 3-San Domenico Stakes and $250,000 Gr 3-Up and Coming Stakes (30 August) and $300,000 Gr 2-Run To The Rose (13 September).

The Michael Freedman-trained Pallaton with Tommy Berry to ride opens a well-backed $2.80-$2.50 TAB favourite on Saturday in the Drinkwise Rosebud.

Next is the Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou stable’s Skyhook at $3.90 (out from $3.60) with Kerrin McEvoy aboard.

Skyhook’s stablemate Blitzburg is $4-$4.60 for jockey Tim Clark while the Brad Widdup-trained Nashville Jack with jockey Jason Collett has been supported from $6 into $5.

Australian Turf Club Head of Racing and Wagering, Nevesh Ramdhani said Saturday started a series of pathway races heading into spring.

“It is always pleasing to see the early three-year-olds step out and watch them develop from their early two-year-old careers towards potential Group 1 glory," Mr Ramdhani said.

“Winners and placegetters from the Drinkwise Rosebud have over a number of years been a strong guide to upcoming three-year-old features including the [Group 1] Yulong Golden Rose."

Ole Kirk in 2020 and In The Congo in 2021 both completed the Rosebud/Golden Rose double.
