$5m TAB Golden Slipper Races Into Action At Rosehill

The iconic $5 million Group 1-TAB Golden Slipper – the centrepiece of Australia’s biggest day of Group 1 racing – headlines a huge day of racing and entertainment at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

The 69th running of the Golden Slipper sees the Chris Waller-trained colt Wodeton with James McDonald aboard the $4.80 TAB favourite ahead of filly Tempted at $5 for James Cummings and jockey Blake Shinn.

Saturday’s 10-race card includes five Group 1 races – the most of any raceday in Australia.

Added racing highlights are:

  • A stellar field in the $1m Gr 1-The Agency George Ryder Stakes headed in TAB markets by Fangirl ($3.10)
  • One of the world’s highest rated horses in Via Sistina in the $1m Gr 1-Ranvet Stakes
  • A capacity field of 14 of Australia’s best sprinters in the $1m Gr 1-Kia Ora Galaxy
  • Star multiple Group 1-winning Godolphin galloper Broadsiding as TAB favourite ($2.25) in the $750,000 Gr 1-Sky Racing Rosehill Guineas.

All tickets purchased at theraces.com.au to Saturday’s raceday include public transport across buses, trains, ferries and the new Parramatta Light Rail, along with an on-course concert by popular DJ Cyril after the final race.

Australian Turf Club's Chief Executive Matt Galanos said Rosehill Gardens’ TAB Golden Slipper Day was a signature event in world racing.

“The TAB Golden Slipper is one of world racing’s most important events and holds its place on a pedestal as the world’s richest race for two-year-olds," Mr Galanos said.

“Five Group 1 races and a vibrant on-course atmosphere come together including a new precinct in the Hard Rated Home Straight all included in General Admission tickets.

“Our major partners in TAB will also hold a special surprise takeover event ahead of the running of the TAB Golden Slipper."

Along with the world’s richest race for two-year-olds, Saturday offers a host of other headlines including:

  • Sydney’s 14-time Champion Trainer Chris Waller is aiming for a remarkable eighth win in the $1m Gr 1-The Agency George Ryder with Fangirl ($3.10/James McDonald), Buckaroo ($26/Damien Lane), Militarize ($51/Zac Lloyd) and Kovalica ($61/Nash Rawiller)
  • Via Sistina is a $1.40 favourite to win back-to-back $1m Gr 1-Ranvet Stakes ahead of international Al Mubhir ($6.50) for trainer William Haggas and jockey Tom Marquand. It would be the renowned UK trainer’s third win in the race in just six years
  • Unbeaten speedstar Private Harry looks to create history in the $1m Gr 1-Kia Ora Galaxy at just his fifth start. He is an early $3.20 favourite for Newcastle trainer Nathan Doyle and jockey Ashley Morgan
  • Broadsiding for the James Cummings and James McDonald pairing is a $2.25 early favourite in the $750,000 Gr 1-Sky Racing Rosehill Guineas, ahead of Swiftfalcon at $5 for Hawkes Racing and rider Tyler Schiller
