Winx Demolishes Rivals In George Ryder

By Brad Gray

Many thought that the Group One George Ryder loomed as Winx’s biggest recent test in maintaining her winning streak but she rose to the occasional, demolishing her rivals.

The mighty mare was at her breathtaking best and after idling up to the leaders at the top of the straight she roared away to win by over seven lengths. Filling the placings were Le Romain and Chautauqua.

"All conditions, all distances, all challengers!"

“I didn’t expect her to win like that. She is just an amazing horse,” gushed Chris Waller.

“It is amazing to have a horse that you’re associated with who is so well received.

“Hugh’s only instructions were to keep her safe. Fortunately she races well like that.

“Running them on heavy tracks is a lot harder than running them on good tracks so you have to be mindful of that. The Queen Elizabeth is where we want to be next though.”

Hugh Bowman, meanwhile, has run out of ways to describe the five-year-old who has now won 16 straight, with Bowman on her back in 14 of those wins.

“I feel like she is in the prime of her career. I expected more tempo early but I knew on the way to the barriers she meant business today,” said Bowman.

“She will be going 1500m to 2000m in three weeks and I felt it was an important to push her to the line.

“It is just so special. I am really lost for words as she receives a round of applause here. There is a great deal of responsibility to be involved with her but with that comes a great deal of confidence.”

Glyn Schofield rode the gallant Le Romain and couldn’t believe it when Winx whizzed past him.

“He likes a wet track so he quickened nicely for me and for 100m I thought I wonder where Winx is. Then I got my answer. Four in front,” said Schofield.

“He ran a super race. He put a margin on Chautauqua who was close to him last week so an improved performance today, but unfortunately not good enough to beat her.”

Tommy Berry suggested after the race that Chautauqua would be “better back to sprint trips.”
