Wide-Open 2019 TAB Champion Tipster

The 2019 TAB Champion Tipster appears set to go down to the wire with any number of chances competing for the prestigious title.

Tony Brassel from Sky Thoroughbred Central leads his 24 rivals following an excellent day’s racing during The Championships Day 1 at Royal Randwick Racecourse last Saturday.

Brassel tipped winners in three of the five nominated races across the day, including his best bet Brutal ($6.70 on TAB - pictured below), winner of The Star Doncaster Mile (1600m).

His other winners were Noble Boy ($2.80) in the Newhaven Park Country Championships Final and Santa Ana Lane ($7.90) in the Aquis TJ Smith Stakes.

Brassel finished the day on top with a balance of $242 after the TAB placed a hypothetical $10 each-way on the selections of all tipsters in the designated feature events.

The Australian Financial Review’s Jason Clout is poised in second place on $193, with Sky Racing’s Andrew Bensley third ($172) and The Daily Telegraph’s Ray Thomas ($168) fourth.

However, several competitors are ready to strike on triple figures with Chris Scholtz (Racing & Sports, $164), Jim Wilson (Channel 7, $148), Sydney Morning Herald’s Max Presnell ($112), Matt Malone (Wagga Advertiser, $104) and Adam Pengilly (Sydney Morning Herald, $104) in with a chance.

There are seven nominated races for the field of 25 punters to do battle on The Championships Day 2.

Winner of the TAB Champion Tipster will see their nominated charity receive a donation of $5000 from TAB.
