What You Missed - Coolmore Classic Day

By Brad Gray
At Rosehill Gardens

Winx 'Ready To Explode'
Chris Waller says that Winx is "ready to explode" ahead of the G1 George Ryder Stakes next Saturday, her last ever start in her home track Rosehill Gardens.

The champion mare cruised to the line in her exhibition gallop, with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle, deputising for Hugh Bowman who was in Melbourne.

"It brings her back down to earth, that's just Winx, she is ready to explode," Waller said of the work, before adding that Ringerdingding and Shillelagh are the two stablemates most likely to join her in the race.

On Winx's growing social media profile, being the smart cookie she is, Waller insists that she knows exactly what she is doing.

"She has turned into a bit of a model, she knows she gets quite a bit of attention on social media," Waller laughed.

Godolphin's Slipper Team Grows
Godolphin will need to start sorting their hat colours because the royal blues could have up to seven runners in next week's Golden Slipper.

Six for James Cummings and one for Anthony Freedman, that being Lyre. Kiamichi is now exempt having won Saturday's Magic Night Stakes, while third-placed Athiri is in the field if the stable accept. Darren Beadman reported that the team worked strongly this morning at Warwick Farm.

"Pin Sec galloped lovely on the course proper, Exhilarates has gone ahead in leaps and bounds, Tenley is holding her condition well and Microphone and Bivoac both worked well," said Beadman.

Bivoac is the one likely to miss out while Amercement is only one spot behind him. When Beadman was asked who he'd like to be riding he quipped "I'll tell you after the barrier draw." He did single out Exhilarates for a special mention though.

Dixie Blossoms For Quinton
“I think it’s one of my proudest days on a racecourse."

That's how much Dixie Blossoms means to Hall Of Famer Ron Quinton, a man who has achieved so much as a jockey and now as a trainer over his career.

“She’s a doll. One of the kindest horses you could deal with. A wonderful mare. The heavy track maybe levelled them up and she does handle it. You could let her out on the street and she would find her way home. I’ve just been dying for Dixie to win that Group One," said Quinton.

Christian Reith revealed he was originally booked to ride at the provincials instead of Rosehill.

“They are always hard to come by, especially the opportunities. I was supposed to be going to Gosford today but thankfully a few owners allowed me to get off their horses to ride this mare and I couldn’t be happier," said the jockey.

Too Easy For Eddie
Robbie Dolan has ridden Easy Eddie five times now for three wins and two placings. That's why Joe Pride will keep the leading apprentice on for next week's G1 Galaxy.

Pride said he'll see how the four-year-old pulls up after winning the Maurice McCarten Stakes on the wet track before deciding.

"It was always our plan that if he ran well to potentially back him up, because he is a good back up horse, but we weren’t counting on a Heavy 10 today. I’ll be there in the morning to see how he is," said Pride.

Dolan gushed, “I would love to be on him. I’m on in a Group One later on (in the Coolmore), so hopefully I will have that little bit of experience for next week."
