Van Der Werf's Dubbo Win A Beauty

Courtney Van Der Werf has celebrated her first Rising Star win for the season, taking out heat 24 at Dubbo.

Van Der Werf scored aboard the Cameron Crockett-trained Artistic Beauty which proved too strong for its rivals.

Chris Williams enjoyed 2nd place while Mikayla Weir collected some valuable points with her 3rd place effort.

Weir (31 points) heads into the final heat of the Rising Star only 1 point behind series leader, Andrew Adkins (32).

Despite finishing unplaced yesterday, Nyssa Burrells collected 1 point and remains in contention if successful in winning the final heat, which is scheduled for Hawkesbury on May 30th.

The Rising Star Series is open to NSW and ACT indentured apprentice riders and has been run since the 1999-2000 racing season.

This will be the 18th Rising Star Final run since the series inception, with a new series champion to be crowned.

Apprentices to enjoy Rising Star success in previous years includes Travis Wolfgram, Claire Nutman, Sam Clipperton, Shaun Guymer and Matthew McGuren.
