Racing NSW has been informed of the passing of Mr Peter Capelin KC, aged 86.
Mr Capelin was educated at St Joseph's College, Hunters Hill and at the University of Sydney.
He was admitted as a solicitor in February 1962 and practised out of Martin Place.

Peter was a Council Member of the NSW Bar Association from 1967-68 to 1977-78 and was made a Queen's Counsel for NSW in November 1979. He was also admitted to the Bars of Victoria and the Commonwealth.
Mr Capelin was an Acting Judge of the NSW Supreme Court of NSW in 1989-90 and was also a Barrister Member of the Administrative Decisions Tribunal.
In horse racing he held many positions with the Australian Jockey Club as Committee member 1980-2001, Honorary Treasurer 1984-1996, Vice-chairman 1996-2000; Chairman 2000-2001, and by 2005 was a Life Member.
He was a member of NSW TAB from 1984 to 1997 and a member of the Racing NSW Appeal Panel in 2003 before becoming Principal Member in December 2003, a position he held until retiring in December 2006.
Mr Capelin is survived by wife Katrina and children Andrew, Christopher and Catherine. A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate the life of Mr Capelin, KC will be held at St Joseph's College Chapel, Mark Street, Hunters Hill from 10am on Monday, 26 May 2025.
