Vale Mr Peter Burnett

Former successful Newcastle jockey Peter Burnett passed away peacefully at home last night. He was 87.

Reserved by nature, Burnett went about his business without any fuss and was one of the most popular figures amongst the Newcastle and Hunter racing fraternity.

Peter won the 1961 Newcastle Gold Cup on Rock Mal, and was one of the original nominations for the Newcastle and Hunter Racing Hall of Fame when it was launched in 2017.
