Vale Mr Jim Johnstone (Newcastle)

Racing NSW has been informed of the passing of former Newcastle trainer Mr Jim Johnstone.

Mr Johnstone was best known for preparing Razor Sharp who won three Challenge Stakes, a Missile Stakes, a Ramornie Handicap and consecutive VRC Newmarket Handicaps (1982-83).

Among his other top horses were Hot as Hell, Rosebrook, Red Currant, Major Suspect and Tinted Blade.

Mr Johnstone's funeral will be held on Tuesday, 14th February 2023 and Newcastle Jockey Club will honour Jim with a race on Monday’s Beaumont Track race meeting.
