The racing community is mourning yesterday's passing of trainer Mr Ben Smith, aged 42.
Mr Smith, who hailed from Scone, prepared the winners of 93 races along with 154 placings.
His best horse was In Her Time who won $3.7 million in prizemoney from nine wins and 14 placings including victories in the Group 1-The Galaxy, Gr 2-Premiere Stakes, Gr 2-Millie Fox Stakes, Gr 2-Breeders Classic and Listed-Sydney Stakes.
Mr Smith also trained the filly El Dorado Dreaming to win $1m and the 2018 Gr 1-Sires’ Produce Stakes at $81. One of his most prolific winners was Strada Lodge who won eight races including three at Scone and two at Newcastle.
Condolences are extended to Ben’s family and friends, with Newcastle Jockey Club set to name a race in his memory at next Tuesday’s meeting on May 20.
