Vale Dr Peter Knight

The veterinary profession and the racing industry are mourning the sudden passing of friend and colleague, Australian Turf Club Veterinarian, Dr Peter Knight, on 22 December 2023.

Those who knew Peter would agree that he was a brilliant, kind, and caring man with a great sense of humour and deep intellect.

While Peter primarily worked in academia, teaching at Charles Sturt University and the University of Sydney in the Faculty of Veterinary Science and School of Medicine, he also served as a regulatory veterinarian for thoroughbred and harness racing in New South Wales for over three decades, regularly officiating at Australian Turf Club meetings during this time.

Peter was passionate about racing and cared as deeply for the horses as he did for the people involved in the industry. He was a supportive friend and colleague to many and an inspiring mentor to both young and old.

Peter significantly contributed to the veterinary and medical professions through his teaching, research and numerous scientific publications.

Peter provided guidance and direction to his regulatory veterinary colleagues and global racing authorities and assisted with improvements in the welfare and integrity of horse racing globally.

Our thoughts and sympathies are with Sarah, Peter’s wife, and his two sons, Thomas and James.
