Two Reasons TAB Are Cheering English

By Brad Gray Not only will English represent TAB in The Everest tomorrow, a race in which they also have naming rights for, but the five-year-old mare is currently the bookmaker’s best result in terms of their hold on the race. As it currently stands, the TAB trading floor will be cheering English home but next best would be, in order, Redkirk Warrior, Clearly Innocent, Fell Swoop and then $21 chance Houtzen. “We won’t just be cheering English because she’s running in our slot, she’s also our best result in our book as it stands,” said TAB’s Gerard Middleton. At the opposite end of the spectrum is the worst result which is She Will Reign from Chautauqua, Brave Smash and the firming Vega Magic who has been $6.50 into $5 since Tuesday’s barrier draw. That sees Vega Magic in a three-way battle for race favouritism with the former West Australian galloper edging clear of She Will Reign and Chautauqua. “It’s an intriguing battle for favouritism with the market really cuddling Vega Magic which now just heads the market at $4.80,” Middleton said. “However the bulk of the money is still for She Will Reign and Chautauqua which are both $5. Today it’s virtually dollar for dollar between the pair and they’re set to be big losers for the TAB should they prevail.” Chautauqua holds 33% of support this morning from She Will Reign at 25% while the next most popular runners are Redzel at 14% and Vega Magic at 6%. As far as big bets go, one punter is keen on the chances of Vega Magic having had $20,000 on at $6 on Tuesday while there have been three separate bets of $10,000 at $4.60 on fairytale filly She Will Reign.
