Twilight Racing Comes To Newcastle This Saturday

This Saturday, Newcastle Jockey Club trials its first ever Twilight Meeting with the Audi Centre Newcastle Raceday at Broadmeadow Racecourse - the first race kicking the program off at 2.49pm.

Chief Executive, Matt Benson, said that given the timing with school holidays and daylight savings it was the perfect time for the Club to gauge whether a twilight fixture will increase patronage and /or wagering turnover.

The 7 race card has been well supported by both local and Sydney-based trainers with the last race scheduled for 6.35pm.

“We are excited about trialling this initiative on Saturday and hope the later time slot makes it easier for people to get other sport, family or shopping commitments out of the road before coming to the races later in the day,” Benson said.

NJC has booked entertainment to support the later programming. The gates will be open from midday and patrons would be very welcome should they wish to come earlier to support interstate racing.
