The Real McCoy Enters Calculations For NSW Picnic Champion Series

By Mark Brassel

Narromine galloper The Real McCoy has forced his way into the top 10 on the score board for the inaugural 2017 NSW Picnic Champion Series despite a close second at Cobar picnics on Saturday.

The Real McCoy (Ricky Blewitt, $3.50) was beaten under a length by favourite Streak On (Wesley Boyd, $2.40) in the feature race, the Cobar Picnic Cup (1700m).

The seven points the gelding earned has seen The Real McEvoy move into joint ninth place on the leader board with Sergeant Bilko (54 points) still the front runner from As Easy As (44), with Black Fusion and Zaphod (30pts) equal third.

Streak On earned 10 points but is well down the pecking order as that was her first appearance in the series.

The points score began at Harden in 2016, with the NSW Picnic Champion Series Final being run at Dubbo's Country Showcase meeting on (Sunday, 17th September 2017) offering $50,000 in prizemoney.

To qualify, horses will acquire points for every picnic race meeting they attend in NSW, with the highest ranking horses at the end of the 12 months being eligible to nominate for the Picnic Champions Final.

All horses except Maidens are eligible to qualify (Clubs must be affiliated with the NSW Picnic Racing Association and use Approved Riders).
