TAB Everest Hits New Heights With Youngest Ever Crowd

The youngest crowd in the history of Sydney racing will attend a sold-out Royal Randwick on Saturday for the biggest and most watched TAB Everest Day since its inception.

Almost 60 per cent of attendees for just the ninth running of the Group 1 $20 million TAB Everest at Royal Randwick will be aged under 26.

Along with up to 50,000 people on course, TAB Everest Day will also reach a viewing audience across the United States and more than 200 countries and territories of 560 million viewers.

The increasingly young demographic attending TAB Everest Day further realises the original ambition of Racing NSW and the Australian Turf Club to bring a new audience to horse racing.

“This year’s TAB Everest will smash all modern-day records for Sydney racing,’’ Racing NSW CEO Peter V’landys AM said.

“It will be the youngest crowd ever to attend a race meeting in Sydney.’’

Wagering records on the race are also expected to be broken as the world’s highest rated sprinter – Hong Kong superstar Ka Ying Rising – is an odds-on favourite for a race which will be included in the World Pool.

Australian Turf Club Interim CEO Steve McMahon said extra resources and preparations were being made across the Royal Randwick precinct for the sold-out crowd.

“We have increased outdoor seating and furniture by 25 per cent from last year’s sell-out and also increased toilet facilities across all areas by 25 per cent,’’ Mr McMahon said.

“There will also be a 12 per cent increase in the number of food and bar outlets to help cater for a crowd of up to 50,000 people.’’

Travel on all forms of public transport is free for all ATC members and ticket holders heading to Royal Randwick on Saturday.

The Group 1 $20 million TAB Everest has attracted the strongest field in the race’s history, with 19 Group 1 wins amongst the field, which has collectively won more than $52 million in prizemoney.

The TAB Everest is race 7 on a 10-race card and is due to start at 4.15pm Sydney time.
